Sold Out online. It wasn't even going to be available until Thursday. I knew those bastards would try to get out of it. Oh well, I'm going to see what a few of the stores say tomorrow, the closest one is 100 miles away though.

Nice I live 5 minutes away from that store. Was it a hassle to get it? I called and they told me I couldn't prepay.

It wasn't a hassle at all. One of the sales people came up to me and asked if I had any questions, which I did. I asked if he knew when the 6800GT would be in, so he looked and couldn't find the date, but it showed it in the system so I asked if I could pre-pay and get the 30% off. He went to the manager and came back and brought me over to the service counter where she rung it up. That's it. I have always gotten good service from this store.

$350 for a 6800 Ultra, wow that is cheap. With the X800 at $550, I will get a 6800U, no question about it.

keep in mind, it is hit or miss.. some people are getting it, while many others are not.

However, judging by what people are saying, i think this fiasco has only started.. ;)

Well, they *could* just not put them out until the sale is over, if they think that they will lose a boatload of money doing this. They might even be having the sale to try to clear out/move older PNY video-card inventory, in preparation for the release of the 6800. In that case, I have no doubt that they would probably hold off stocking the 6800 cards.

Well, just got back from CompUSA during my lunch break and I was able to get a 6800GT for 292.59 after taxes. What really sweetened the deal is that I traded in a old laptop (P2-300mhz Gateway) and got a $225 gift certif for it. The laptop was a freebie from a few years ago and I ended up only paying 67.59 for my new card!

The funny thing is that a manager helped me out and said, "wow, I think I'll have to get one of these myself... I sure hope CompUSA doesn't go bankrupt cause of this!" :D Next thing I know there are about 3 more employees around the register thinking about buying cards too.

Traded in a laptop?!?!? I had no idea they accepted trade-ins of old computer stuff for parts. I just bought the Maxtor 160GB HD for $80 that they had in the same flyer. Are you saying that if I traded in a laptop I could have purchased a 6800GT instead?!?!? (I have an old B&W 486 laptop here that I would gladly trade in for some more substantial computer hardware...) I have their paper flyer right here in front of me, and I don't see anything mentioned about a trade-in plan. Please explain.

Edit: Apologies for not reading the whole thread before replying, sometimes when I do that I forget my train of thought. Anyways, apparently my ancient Toshiba laptop doesn't qualify, but for those that are curious, the trade-in program info is here.

That is exactly what the stores will do. They're not dumb. They know that if they put them out now (assuming they had them) then they'd lose a ton of money on them as many people would want to get in on the deal.

They'll most likely put them out once the sale is over.

That's just an assumption because you don't really know how much they actually pay for them. For the people that already got in the deal like me, we're already set.

The GT should fit my needs and I will use the rest of the money I saved for games other parts ect.

Holy cow. I had no idea CompUSSR allowed you to do mail orders over the phone! I have some long distance calls to make tomorrow. :D (Yes, this is me folding to pressure I thought I wouldn't fold under)

I don't have a CompUSA near my, but my brother-in-law does, and he owes me one so he went to get one for me. He did a prepay in Schaumberg, IL. Now I just wait to see if it comes through.

Fairfax, VA is a no go. Possibly the least helpful, most idiotic people I've ever seen. They weren't being mean, they were just morons. I have never gotten blank stares like that from successive people in one place.

hahhahahahaha The deal is kinda shady, so I can imagine the looks on their faces. I dont even go for deals like this anymore at Compusa or Office Max. Even if I have the ad in my hand they always claim its not in stock or misprint.

heh, I got mine pre-bought at the Tyons's store. You might want to try out there Mephis. I was a little worried about the deal being sketchy too... luckily I was the second person the store to try out the deal, so maybe the red flags hadn't been raised yet. I also heard the sales guy say that the price I got it for i sabout 15% below cost from their distributer.

Man, this is a hot deal... but then I thought about it. Do I really need to spend $300 on a video card? :/

Just a side note, the price on the 5900se turns out pretty good with the 30% discount as well.

The Nashua, NH store will do this deal, no set date when they wil arrive but they could possibly be in stock by the 1st according to the guy I talked with. $280.00 (PU) for the GT. The only caveat is that they charge the card now rather than just put a hold on the funds and charge it when it ships, so if you cancel or the cards don't show for some reason you'd have to wait to get the credit back (2-3 days?)
