I may not know much about laptops, but I do know for a fact that I wouldn't want a 17-inch one. I had to fix a coworker's 17-inch Toshiba. The thing was enormous, and at around eight pounds it's annoying to keep in a lap. IMO, unless you're looking for what's essentially a "mobile desktop" then you probably don't want something 17 inches or larger.

15.6 in is the very max for me for a mobile laptop. Most 17 in have horrible battery life and are huge. The 14in is fine for me for light gaming when Im not home but I have my i7 and 24in for gaming.

I got in on this deal. Saw ad in notebookreview forums and had to grab it. Gave my MBP to wife a while ago and my thinkpad x201 is just a little lame (no hdmi crappy screen)

Got Slice battery and radiance display totaled out at $954 shipped.

Hope I like it. Couple niggles like no trackpoint and screen which only opens 130 degrees are an issue tho.

Question:

I ordered the HP ENVY with the i5-580M Processor... Will this severely affect battery life?

Also, Can I purchase a replacement BluRay drive from the Envy 17, and pop it into the Envy 14?

DAMN IT! Ordered cancelled for some reason! I guess it was too good to be true...

So I just had a chat with someone at HP and they said they canceled the order due to not having some components in stock. Such BS, they should not let someone buy something if they don't have it in stock and will just cancel the order without any explanation.

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for your recent computer order. Due to an overwhelming response to our Envy 14 series and Radiance Technology we are unable to build your notebook as ordered. Unfortunately, the Radiance display is no longer being made by our supplier. As a result of this supply situation, we have had to cancel the notebook portion of your order. We regret this occurred and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Fuck it, I'm going Mac

I ordered a HPE-470t desktop from their other coupon deal, and they emailed me they ran out of the video card I selected. They offered a much lower end card to replace it (with no discount to what I paid for the better card) or they would cancel my order. HP has been less than impressive.

Well they did try and sent me an email saying if I wanted to order another one they will still give me the $500 off but the radiance display is the reason I wanted it so F that.

I got that same email. But without the radiance display this laptop really has lost its appeal to me. 1366 resolution just doesn't cut it for me. What ever happened to putting high resolution displays in notebooks?

were you on the fence of purchasing a mbp and this laptop? The only reason why I purchased (now cancelled) was because of the $500 dollars off and the Envy 14. I didn't even need a laptop! Maybe this is a good thing in the long run...

I guess it's better now than never.. I'm surprised a lot of people who ordered didn't get the cancellation... I guess We're just the unlucky bunch...

*UPDATE*

just found out, it was people who sat on this deal and waited until monday who purchased it... people who got it on Saturday are still shipping.

It was a laptop for the wife. She wants something that is thin and portable (she has a thick, heavy, hot, and cheaply built Inspiron right now), but still runs at a decent speed. I wanted this over the MBP because of price and the display. Without the display, the envy holds 0 value for me.

I want something that is fast, yet thin and well constructed like the MBP. If I get a MBP, its gonna only have windows on it. She's Windows to the bone.

I'm pissed as this was her b'day present, and now I need to scramble. I was thinking the Asus U36, but its weaker, and I'm not sure on the LCD.

Nope. There are a few people who ordered on Saturday and got canceled. Mine still hasnt been canceled so knock on wood...

with supply this limited, I can't imagine quality will be very high... Come on MBP 13"... release something with switchable graphics!!!! like your 15" Bretheren

Is anybody considering the Envy without the radiant display? They are offering me the $500 coupon for $1399, but without the radiant display. I know that the screens don't compare, but it doesn't seem like a terrible deal either. Is 1366*768 terrible on a 14.5"?

I ordered mine on Monday and haven't gotten any cancellation emails yet... *fingers crossed*

Checked the website and it says "in production."

I've a feeling people HP will be getting some serious hate on this laptop... especially if any of those 400 radiant displays get less than 100% perfection (i.e. RMA'd). Then, there will be nothing to RMA!

Now have you gotten charged yet is the question?

Mine already charged my CC but has not shipped yet.

Did you order a radiance display? They had charged me immediately also, but then refunded my money when they had canceled the order.
