DEAD. 37" LCD $547 Frys.com

This deal is quite tempting, but I would be using a new LCD TV has my main computer monitior as well so I will probably get a 1080p 37 or 42 inch model (probably the old 37 inch LVMw3 Westy or wait for the new 42 inch TX model).

It would have to be later tonight, but it's no problem. Any questions on the tv itself?

I will say the only issues I have with this unit:

No remote codes for my comcast hd-dvr remote.
Volume doesn't go too low. It's loud most of the time (I have hard wood floors, and that doesnt help). It's good quality, though.
Only one of every kind of input (fine for me, but maybe not for some).
Of course no tuner, but I knew that going in, and I wouldn't use it anyways.

Everything else is great. Let me know of any other questions.

Well, Circuit City and Office Depot, among others, have been selling them, so the company seems to have established themselves. Lots of info on the web as well for the Olevia brand. I think the key will be to get a quality signal into the TV. Just watched Star Wars 3 on the Olevia 537H (similar model with a tuner) via DVD player and I am very pleased. Consumer Reports reviewed, and really liked, the 537H which is what I have. Admittedly this thread is about the 337H, but I would hope the TVs are fairly similar. The only comment in this thread comparing the two indicates that they think the 337H has an even better display than the 537H.

Doubtful. The 337H uses the Pixelworks video codec, which is slightly inferior to the MTK version in the 537H model.

FYI... this is in today's (Friday) Fry's ad in Los Angeles for $597.

Seems like a great deal.

Nice deal. I bought the 32 inch a few months ago and I love it. Only problems I have with it are that you cant use a universal remote, which is no big deal, and that the volume is sorta loud even at the lowest setting. In fact, Im selling my tv to my friend and buying this one. 🙂

I'm trying to decide between this and the 32" one. The 32" one comes out to be around $100 cheaper. I'm not sure if the extra 5" is worth the extra $100.

link to ~32 one please

32" at Circuit City

I would buy in store and I have a 10% off coupon. So total with tax for me is around $540. The 37" is $547 online plus tax plus $42 shipping to me, so like $635. I hate buying LCD's online though because of the possibility of dead pixels.

Does anyone know if this Frys deal is available in store?

EDIT: Ended up with this 37" model at Fry's in store for 597. Once I saw the difference between a 37" and 32" I knew it was worth the extra money. Doesn't seem like it, but it's a big difference.

oh wait,

1600:1 Dynamic Contrast RATIO

Dont most TV's have like 10,000:1 ??

is that a bad thing??? also i copulda sworn i read some bade reviews about the olevia 300 series some ware..

Plasma hits that contrast, but 1600:1 is decent for LCD.

Fry's is selling a Samsung LCD that does 10,000:

Completely different TV, I know, I'm just addressing that one number.

Anything over 3000 for LCD is marketing-speak BS.

This deal must be dead. The link just redirects to the Frys front page, and if you search for Olevia you won't find anything on the site.

I plan on doing the same thing (computer plus TV on same monitor) as soon as my old TV dies, but I thought that to make it work, you need Picture In Picture. True?

I got one of these Friday at the Wilsonville, OR B&M store in the Portland area. This is a fantastic TV for the money. A perfect, beautiful picture right out of the box. Those in the area can check there as the deal is supposed to be good until Tuesday but I'd call ahead to see if they have any stock, as they had trouble finding one in the back for me when I picked up mine (they said something like their expected inventory got re-routed to the newly-opened Roseville, CA store).
