Dead 360 please help!

Ok so last night I was playing Forza4 working on my tune for tonight's weekly Anandtech demolition derby. My girlfriend called so I paused the game and switched my tv over to my cable input while we were talking. About an hour later I went to go back to the game and noticed my 360 was off. I hit the powerup on the 360 controller and it just flashed and the 360 didn't startup.

This has happened once or twice before, so I just got up to power it on from the console directly. NADA. Hit the power button and it did absolutely nothing. No RROD no green light sequence just nothing. The red power light on the brick is on. i checked all the connections etc and it just won't power on.

Now this is a 3 year old 'fat' last of the Falcon's 360 60GB Pro model. I've never had any issue at all with it except for replacing the DVD drive about 6 months ago because it quit reading disks. Does anyone have any ideas?

I don't want to spend the money to buy a new Slim with the possibility that the '720' will be out by next year, and a used one is always a crapshoot and could be money down the drain. Is there a fuse or something that is replaceable? I was thinking about taking it to gamestop and seeing if they can put it on a different power brick in case there is something wrong with my brick or cables. Any other suggestions?

damn, that sucks. Is the light on the power brick on?

if you have a multimeter you could check the output pins on the power supply to make sure they have the correct voltage

Light on the power brick is red. I'm at work so I'm extremely limited in what external websites are reachable.

On the XBOX support page they recommend doing the following for a red light on the power brick:

1.Unplug the cords from the back of your console, the power supply, and the wall outlet.

2.Plug the power cords firmly back into your console, the power supply, and the wall outlet.

3.Be sure to plug your console directly into a wall outlet. Do not use a surge protector or an extension cord.

4.Press the power button on your console.

They also suggest that the power brick may be overheated, the wall outlet is faulty or the power brick is dead. I lean toward the later.

according to gewgle:

According to Microsoft the light turns red when:
• When there is too much current
• When the voltage is too high
• When the temperature is too high

open it up and clean it. most people end up having to buy a new brick. check the local CL? pawn shop?

That bites. I definitely wouldn't plan on getting a next-gen system anytime soon - as far as I know there are no plans to release the next Xbox anytime soon. CL or Gamestop is a good idea - there must be plenty of people with bricked consoles and lonely, working power supplies.

Good luck. If none of that works, I have a repaired (by Microsoft, with 3-year RROD warranty) Falcon Elite that I would be willing to part with in 40 days (when I get home). It's been sitting in a damn box for 12-months.

Probably lots of people selling their power bricks for cheap on craigslist once their xbox dies. You definitely got the better of the two things dying if thats the case.

I called the same guy that swapped my dead DVD drive and he has a couple 175w Falcon PSU's for $25. He even has the cpu/gpu press to do full RROD chip resoldering. So I will miss tonight and hopefully get a new PSU tomorrow.

I bought a new brick from Amazon and it should be here Saturday. I plugged everything back in last night and got 2 hrs of play before the power brick went red-led again so I'm sure the brick is overheating and shutting down.

Nope it's sitting on a perforated metal shelf below my router, 360, PS3, NAS, and my SlingBox. I even tried suspending it in mid-air and it still gave up after an hour or so. It's moot at this point anyway. I came home from work last night and there was a new 320gb slim sitting on the floor in front of the TV. 🙂

HOW? please share.

Nelson Clause obviously sensed his plight, dropped down his chimney and pulled a 360 Slim out of his big red bag for the poor guy.

Well some of you know that my Mom recently lost her house in a fire. My stepdad is here from the UK and decided to go out and buy a new one for me yesterday. Whether he was just being nice or thought maybe I needed an outlet to survive my Mom's short term relocation to my 1 bedroom apartment while her house is being rebuilt I will never know. Thanks Dad...

lmk if you want to borrow my 360 transfer kit, I could send it to you for shipping costs.

Technically all I need to do is move my saves and such by flash drive and then recover my XBL GT on my new 360 correct?

I don't have any drm'd stuff (music or movies from ZUNE) downloaded so i didn't have to rtransfer licenses. Took about 2 hours including reinstalling the games I'm currently playing from disk.
