I think I got it for $159 at Newegg a couple of weeks ago. Very good SSD drive. Just don't turn off indexing, like the Samsung software wants you do. If you turn off indexing, you won't be able to properly sort your documents and photos by whatever method you choose.

I've been eyeing this drive myself. I'm not sure if it will ever come back in stock. From what I read, they have have been phasing this model out for the new 840 models. It's practically out of stock everywhere.

Not true..

Indexing speeds up searches.. It's pretty pointless with an SSD ..

I don't give a darn about speeding up searches. I want to be able to sort my pictures and documents by day, which puts all my most recent files right at the top. If you turn off indexing, your documents don't sort this way. I end up scrolling down to find all my most recent files instead of right at the top when I click on My Pictures or My Documents. With indexing off, it doesn't even let me choose to sort by day. Or if it does, it puts all the folders above any individual files, so I have to scroll way down to find them. It isn't always about a few seconds in speed, sometimes it is more important to have access to my files in a way that lets me work faster.

If that's true, you have a point and I stand corrected.
I haven't noticed the behavior you describe though.. I'll have to look into it..

Yup mine should be here tomorrow. That's pretty quick for them being on backorder when I ordered.. that being said, the online chat representative informed me they are currently in stock!

Placed order on:
Wed 11/14/2012

Estimated delivery :
Wed 11/21/2012

Can't wait to see the difference from my Torqx2 to this... probably not much but owell - 4x the storage space and the torqx can go in my HTPC!

Almost $13.00 sales tax here in CA makes it a deal killer for me. Brings the price up to nearly what I paid for the same drive four months ago, tax free.

Any chance for a lower price on these?
Since Samsung seems to be phasing out the 830's in favor of the 840's, I'm guessing not. Which doesn't particularly make sense, since the 830's were better in every meaningful way - the move from 2 bit to 3 bit cells is purely a cost-saving measure.
