Dead: 19" Flat CRT (KDS XF-9BI) $77 AC/AR

For those considering this monitor, those in a high taxation area (at 8.65%, tax works out to be over $13 for this). or those who does not like rebates, may want to consider the refurbished 21" Hitachi monitors in this long running thread.

This OfficeDepot KDS deal is certainly worthy as well, however.

Just thought mentioning the Hitachi deal (have personally seen a number of the Hitachis, as I recommend them for lower budget clientele) may aid some looking in the monitor market at the moment.

Yeah, I'm still trying to find a good deal on a monitor as well:

Current choices.
1) wait for a good deal on the 1800FP NEW - $350 to $400 shipped
2) Get this 19" KDS - $77 after C and after R
3) get the refurbished 21" Hatachi CRT $180 shipped

any advice? I'm a student and I love having an LCD. I do a lot of CAD designing and webpage/typing. Other than that it's the casual movie watching and anandtech 🙂

The Hitachi 803 21" (rather than the original 811 21") may be useful for CAD, as it supports resolutions as high as 1800x1440, while the 811 21" (and the above KDS CRT, as well as a majority of the more inexpensive LCDs including the Dell) only supports resolutions as high as 1600x1200.

Good luck.

Well, the super resolution is nice but not a major buying factor for me. For my level of CAD designing (student), I'm fine with 1280x1024 resolution.

I'm wondering how the rest of the stuff will fair between mainly the 21" CRT vs the 18" LCD.

I watch a lot of Movies
play a few FPS sometime
CAD designing
and webpage surfing

PS. Sorry Ionizer, Didn't mean to steel your thread. I won't post any farther comments about this on your thread.

Nono, no concern about stealing threads. This is product discussion anyway. They've said the KDS isn't the absolute clearest CRT at 1600x1200, but at 1280x1024 (or 960) it should be fine.

I got in on a similar deal regarding this monitor about a year ago.... where OD "accidentally" allowed a $80 coupon in addition to a MIR.

For those interested, there are actually 2 models -- the "XF-9B" and "XF-9Bi". They have different refresh rates -- and the 9B model is better. (I don't remember the detail... do a google search... i think the site with specs was canadian, if i remember right)
I originally got the other one, but I was able to find a 9B (and an agreeable manager), to swap it with.
The thing that was really confusing was... both monitors had the SAME OD sku# -- so as far as OD is/was concerned, they were the same monitor -- even though the specs on the box (and model #) were definately different. So beware! Maybe they've fixed the sku# problem, but I doubt it.
BTW -- I remember worrying about the rebate stating "XF-9Bi" -- instead of "XF-9B" -- but I _DID_ get the rebate, no prob.
Also... I've been very happy with the clarity/color/refresh -- and can't imagine ever getting anything better for < $100.

Also... for anyone considering this vs. a LCD... this 19"er is _HUGE_ and heavy -- so if space is a concern, this is probably not for you.

If I find a coupon good for in-store, I'll pick up a second one so I can finally have dual monitors that match.

EDIT: had the model #'s reversed... the 9B is better than the 9Bi.... Went to the store on 23rd and Union in Tacoma WA and they only had the inferior 9Bi.

Frankly, KDS blows and you are correct.

Yes, KDS is the suck. I have a 15" lcd from them and it's been nothing but trouble for me. When you turn off the screen and try to turn it back on all you get is a whole lotta white and just have to pray the next time you do it that the screen will return to normal. Stay far away from KDS products.

I had a 15" KDS trinitron and a 17" KDS CRT, the 15" died about 6months outside of warranty and the 17" died under warranty and i'm still in process of rma'ing. I sold my old 19" because the image quality wasn't that great, got a samsung instead and much happier.
I would say KDS is on par with Envision or other low budget names.
Not something i would ever buy again.

I have had this monitor for about 6 months. I am running a 5900 ultra and see nothing wrong with the display. I you guys are leery- do what I did. I paid $25 for a "no questions asked" warranty. For 3 years, I can return it and walk out the door-no questions asked!

I got on that deal last year as well and the KDS is a decent CRT for light duty home use. Clarity is fine and the 19" screen is a real delight to use...thanks for the heads up on this deal....

i got the kds 17" trinitron in 1999...it's survived 4 moves and now my mom loves it more than me...

then again, kds crts are HUGE...having one will only make you appreciate an lcd all the more, if/when you decide to switch over...

i almost jumped on the deal, but then it turns out to be a Dynaflat, not a Trinitron 🙁
back to the DP930 idea...

That deal was years ago though...I don't know if anyone sells them refurbished these days.

This is a damned good deal. My bro want's a cheap "19 to play games on @ 1024x768.

a friend wants a 17" for under $100 that will work with an old p3 system he has I think he'll like the 2" extra.

And I need a new monitor just for duping around on.

I've used this model at work, and I have no complaints about it, it's 2 years old, and works the same as every other monitor I've had. Thanks for post. And good timing by the way.

I got one. This is a great deal. I have had several KDS monitors. This one has great resolution and color. For the price you cannot beat it. I cannot afford the Dell LCD 20.1 deal. 🙁

THANKS OP

KDS = junk

I have a 19" piece of crap from KDS, the grill lines are very visible, image quality poor, its hard to find resolutions and refresh rates that when the resolution is changed doesn't change the picture size.

Very low quality image wise compared to a nice Sony, construction seems good and solid, not sure on reliability - I will never be buying another KDS though.

bump for a good deal. I do graphic desing work, and I play a lot of games. and I see no problems with this monitor... I have no idea what the thread crappers are talking about. Yes it's a budget piece of equipment, and if you were spending 2++ time the amount of money I could see your point, but as far as I can tell this is a very decent monitor especialy for the money. again thanks for the post. How this fell to page 4 so fast I have no idea.
