I hope these are great speakers. I was going to opt for the FPS2000 or BA, but I thought these would be better at only $40. Initially I ordered two in hopes of using one on each of the outputs on my TB Santa Cruz, but I then changed my order to 1. I don't have the capability to hual two of these sets to Boston with the rest of my stuff--damn, their gonna be heavy! I hope they do change my order or else I'll be pissed...

Thanks for the great post. Let's wait and see if these are good speaks (ie, compaq had nothing to do with them...)

Why I bash compaq? I bought a 233 mmx a couple of years back, still my maching until i finish my 1.4 athy. this thing performs like crap! a 166 could outperform it! Onboard audio, video, and such ruin this thing....

And to top it off, my brother bought a k6-2 500 a year ago (without my consent). Guess what? His 10 gb hd crashed and compaq/maxtor take no responsibility...these things are crappy! Let's hope the speaks can perform.

The biggest thing for me to pick the Compaq is that I live in a small apartment and don't have a real "media room". Thus the two rear channel speakers on the FPS2000 would have to be placed on the same table as the front channels, just at a different angle. So, I figured go with the 2 speaker one for now and get the 4 channel (might as well get a 5 channel) later.

fps2000

Subwoofer Rated Power @ 10% THD (RMS / Channel) 25 watts (CRAP Compaq is 100+ watts at 0.05% lower THD is better)

Digital DIN 9-pin mini DIN (GOOD Compaq has no digital in)

Price, um easy math :)

Regarding the subwoofer: 25 watts (FPS) vs. 140 watts (Compaq)
satellites: 7 watts each vs. 10 watts each

quality of sound is another issue but technical specs are easily available on the web - do a search

Dammit, I almost got to bed without spending yet another $40.00. Good deal, even though my wallet is hurting tonight.

thanks for all the comments. so, if both the fps and the compaqs were the same price, would people still by the compaqs?

If both were $80 I wouldn't get either , unless they were both $40, then i'd get the Compaqs. More upside.

as far as 10W vs the Subs 140W thats a good point, might be overpowering, I would consider hooking this sub direct to a component amp too (use it like a stand alone powered sub) with regular speakers.

Hit it right on the nail there.. that's exactly why I jumped on this scorching hot deal :D a 140 watt subwoofer outta compliment my currently non-subbed system very cheaply.. hell of a deal!

The page still shows 259, so it couldn't
be "Real-time".
Maybe because it's late?!?!?
Of course I can't remember my PASSWORD either.:|

Anyone know how to change these into a 5.1 system? The link to order the speakers in the review mentions:

"New with the available SoundBlaster Live card, the PS-330 also transforms your PC into a virtual, Dolby Digital 5.1 audio system."
