FYI, i didnt even see the Kogi monitor in the store. They seemed to carry MAG, Samsung, vprMatrix( and that was with the vprMatrix computers, not the LCDs ), Sonys, and Viewsonic in store.

IMO this is a great looking monitor. Porsche design made a winner here. The Display was easily as good (I think better) than anything else on they had hooked up. You must see for your self since it cannot be ordered online anymore. The store I went to had 7 in stock, they arrived feb 1.

The computer checkout system said extended warranty not available. The sales person offered to sell me an extended warranty for another monitor and make a note that it applies to the vpr. I can't imagine explaining this to some BB mgnr. 2 years from now if there is a prob.

I suspect this monitor will not be available long, since the new Samsung screens are becoming available.

It seems apparent that BB online pulled this item because they had no intention of offering 2 rebates at the same time.

I just went to BB in Boston to see what this thing looked like, etc. and they were nowhere to be found on the floor in the monitor section.... I started wandering around looking up at the boxes they had stored above the floor along the walls and saw 5 boxes for this monitor stacked there.... So they were in-stock.

Too bad BB is ducking this deal or I would have liked to get one to see for myself.... I didn't ask about the price or if they were available to purchase but I'd like to know if anyone goes in today and gets the $160 rebate form, etc.

s $300 still a great deal for this monitor?...several of the B&M's have these around me...I may still get one. Does this come with the DVI connector cable? (Excuse my ignorance, I do not own, nor do I know anything about flat panel monitors!!). Or is that an accessory I have to buy? Can this be used for minor video editing and gaming?

i've heard from Fatwallette that it comes with DVI and VGA cabes permanently attached to the monitor. minor video editing should be fine, and gaming produces minimal ghosting. i doubt you'll be able to find a 17" monitor with these specs for this price right now.

I ran into the "not available for online purchase or instore delivery"

Went to my local store & found 5 of them, was going to buy one, but it won't ring up with an extended warranty.

Online customer support is well aware the item is available & didn't deny the item was in stock & available for instore purchase, they're as another poster stated, ducking this deal.

Bet it'll show up for purchase after the 8th, when the $160 rebate expires...

Is it still ringing up @ the store with the $160 rebate for anyone?

I just picked up mine today. using it right now with the DVI.

The screen is really bright, no dead pixels or anything. very cool.

Now i'll have to figure out the rebates. Will have to try to get that $50 that they pulled off =P

This monitor, so far seems very good for $300. Dont have time to try playing games on it yet tho

I just bought one at a b&m and the $160 rebate printed out. I ordered one last night for instore pickup, but they cancelled my order because the store I picked did not have enough stock after this mornings inventory check (Minimum 6 required is what the csr said).

IF you go the the vprmatrix sight they mention the $50 reabate at bestbuy, but they also mention the 599 price, so this is still a good deal at $300 AR.

Just so you know, this isn't a very good monitor. I have the Samsung 171V and that monitor is far better than the vpr matrix. The response time has to be much greater than 25ms since my mouse ghosts an awful lot, even in DVI mode. On my samsung 171v, it's barely noticeable. Oh well, another great deal ruined.

Hmm.... apparently it is highly dependant on color. My Samsung does a better job with blues, but the vpr does a better job with blacks/whites. I am torn on which one to keep. :)

sirfergy make up your mind!! I read your first impression and I'm bummed, now you're liking it better. I just have to see it myself. I have the box sitting here right next to me, just waiting for me to take it home. I am pretty particular like you so if it isn't really good it will be going back. The thing that really made me hit the BUY button was that it has DVI for only $278 AR and tax. Most of these hot monitor deals are for analog LCDs. I'm going to run some 3D Mark and NASCAR 2002 when I get home to see how it does.....

Yeah, in analog mode this monitor is pretty crappy. The DVI mode is pretty good, it's the blues that are bothering me. Its not that they are displayed poorly, it's that they are slower in response than the other colors.

I just got back from BB with mine. The employees were grabbing them also. There was one left at the Eastgate (Cincinnati) store. I was directly told that this was a replacement for the Kogi and that too many B&M did not have stock. They felt that this was the closest they could replace with. I was assured that the $160 rebate would be honored and it did print out at register. now...the interesting part. I was talking to the two employees who had them in their hands for purchase and asked about the difference in the warranties. I was told that they were both gonna be getting the 3 year warranty for $49.99. I mentioned that I had seen "somewhere" on the internet that these were ineligible for an extended warranty. They both told me I was wrong as "Best Buy would never turn away your $50 dollars because the odds are in their favor that you would never need service". I told them I was unconvinced. They marched right up to the customer service desk with me and I paid for and bought my monitor with the 3 year warranty!!! I went first..so I did not get to stick around and see what kind of discount they got.

There was a Kogi monitor on display...it was black and had built in speakers. I was not allowed to look at any pr0n on it :D, so I am not sure of the quality. There were no vprMatrix monitors on display though. I was also told to read the Kogi 3 year warranty very closely...they could have strict conditions on the warranty...suh as, up to 25% pixel loss before they would exchange the monitor!!! I doubt that is true, but that is what they told me.

Anyhow...I will be hooking this up sometime later today.

Thanks!

I just picked one up at the Dublin,CA B&M. After tax and MIR, it'll be $340. I was offered a 3yr warranty for $40. Maybe I should've gotten it. It looked good on display...but I'm wondering what other people think? I'm holding onto it for now. Anyone interested in a Viewsonic A90?

The $50 rebate was supposed to end today, I believe, but it was only good if purchased online. There was no mention of it on display. The display actually showed a price of $599 - $160 rebate.

I checked out this monitor last night at bb against the kogi. Now i didn't do any games, but for reading text i actually thought the kogi was better. Here's what i think the vpr's downfall is: The vga cord is long, like 12 ft long. At first the CSR person had it plugged into an extension cord, which plugged into the computer and with that setup the piture was horrible. There was almost a complete double image of the text from ghosting (right term?). I had him take the extension cable out of the equation and this cleared up most of the problem, although you could still notice a slight gray shadow to the right of text. I compared this to the Kogi (also on analog connector) and the Kogi was much crisper for text, or so my eyes told me anyway.

I'm not trying to thread crap on the monitor, but if the rebate is dead and this one is the exact same price as the Kogi, I'd go with the Kogi as it looked nicer to my eyes. Also, just a minor thing, but on the cpr i looked at the vpr symbol on the casing was upside down, which, coupled with the one year warranty, makes me wonder about the craftsmanship. Although i have to say the externally styling of the vpr is much nice, reminds me of my Fuji FinePix 6800 (designed by FA Porsche as well).

PS: There were two vpr's at the best buy west in madison, WI but i didn't see any Kogi's except the display. That was at close on Monday, 2/3.

Ordered last night and just picked up the LCD. Using it as we speak. After the transaction, the sales associate offered me the extended warrenty, which I accepted. The warrenty is on a seperate receipt with no mention of the LCD on it.... dont know what complications I will have with this down the road. I also verified with the sales associate about returning the LCD at a later date with full purchased credit torward the purchase of a newer one. After coming home and reading the "fine print" of the warrenty, nowhere does it state this offer. What is noted on the warrenty that comes to interest is, "The plan does not cover "no problem found" diagnosis." Wouldnt this statement negate what the sales associate verified? Anyone with more info please fill me in as I am very skeptical about the extended warrenty now.

On another note, this LCD is an upgrade to my 15" Dell UltraSharp 1504FP. I must say, it is a disappointment. Ghosting is horrible. I have the LCD connected digitally to my all-in-wonder radeon 8500 and when I move the mouse, there is a phat mouse trail. On the Dell, the pointer becomes slighty blurred but there is no trail. The Dell has a response rate of 25ms so it would seem that the VPR is much worst than that. Also, the colors tend to lean towards red. If I open MS Word, the white background looks more pink than white. And since this is a digital connection, all color settings on the LCD is unavialable for adjustment. I havent played any games yet.... but from initial examination, it looks like I will be returning this LCD.

I'm using the vprMatrix right now. For $250 this is a no bainer. If you were able to get in congrats. The rebates aren't dead, the 50 and 160 rebates are available if you ordered online. I printed out my rebates last night when I ordered, along with the webpage. The problem is the thing is sold out online. If you buy in store you can still get the $160 rebate.

I am using the DVI connector with a Radeon 9700 and everything is clear and crisp. I can see some minor ghosting in games where objects are moving very quickly. For example in Nascar 2002 while watching a replay from a fixed position a car traveling at 200mph will show some ghosting. When I'm driving I do not see it. I watched the first test on 3DMark and really couldn't see any ghosting there.

My desktop looks great. The colors are vibrant. The whites are REALLY bright. The brightness in general is excellent. I actually turned it down to 25 / 100. This monitor replaces an old CRT Hitachi 17" SE 630 that was a great monitor in it's day. This vpr LCD completely blows it away. This one has no dead pixels.

Don't forget the Microsoft Cleartype fonts for LCD's and Laptop's.

If you got one and have all of your documentation and rebates you scored big for $250 I think.

To dispell some of the offthewall misinformation in this thread, you might want to go HERE and download "Monitors Matter CheckScreen ". Run the smear test. This prog will fit on a floppy, take it with you.
On my setup with ATI 9000pro using dvi connection, all colors look great, and there is no difference in response time (how could there be). There are no bad pixels, and plenty of brightness and contrast.
I don't play games, but all of the sample scenes in 3dMark (madonion) look fine. I haven't tried the analog input.

The extended warranty was still not available (as of noon cdt ). but customer service sold me a $49 / 3yr policy anyway. It doesnt list the monitor model number or serial. He just stapled it to the receipt and said it would be fine.

Hope this helps.

I think Ecliptic got a defective monitor or maybe it just needs to be reset to factory defaults. My whites are Soooo bright and so white. No pink, and I do not get mouse trails.

Ok, here's my review of the monitor (got it early this afternoon)

As everyone said, it's very bright. good thing u can have 3 separate settings for watever you do. so i set the "work" mode's brightness to only 10 (i dont like it bright when i type) and changing to other modes is just a hit of a button away. so it's great.

I tried playing WC3 on it (that's the only game i really play) and I do notice ghosting. when i scroll across the screen, buildings and units r blured. So i guess the respons time isnt that great. I'll see how the game look on my friend's samsung191.

this is a really good monitor for its price. i dunt htink i can find anything like this around $300. (keep in mind, this monitor comes with DVI)

Pro: bright, crisp, clear, very good price, designed by Porsche
Con: response time isnt so good
