DEAD! 17" LCD $89 AR @ eCost

Noticed eCost is running an awesome manufacture rebate on an already cheap LCD. I haven't used this thing, but for the price its sure to be pretty crappy. Amazingly it actually runs 1280x1024, not 1024x768 like most crappy 17" LCD's.

I ordered one just to give it a shot. Hopefully it will be good enough for my parents whom I plan on giving it to.

People seem to have had trouble with this rebate:

eCost.com has the GEM GM-170B 17in LCD Flat-Panel Display for $249 - $80 rebate [Exp 2/15] + $5 handling = $174 with free shipping. Features 1280x1024 Resolution, 300:1 Contrast, 250 cd/m2 Brightness, 3-Year Warranty.

i can't believe they are still advertising this fraud rebate. the website mentioned on this rebate form to check its status DOES NOT EXIST. I am afraid that my $80 are in limbo right now. only other way to know the status is to write an email to that non existent rebate website! can anybody give me a suggestion in this case?

I know what you mean about these da*n fraudulent rebates. If you want to get your 80 dollars or any other missing rebates, the easiest way to do it to file a complaint directly to the rebate-company.

Another with same complaint

This reminds me of the Optorite cd burner deal with rebate I found on this forum. One guy claimed I would be wasting a stamp sending in a rebate form to them and dang if he wasn't right. This appears to be a similar deal. Luckily I was only gyped out of $10.

Am i the only thinking this? But assuming if you don't get the rebate, it was still only $159 shipped. (Plus tax and recycling fee if in CA). Where else are you going to find a 17" LCD monitor for $!59 shipped without rebate?

I just jumped on this deal, too bad I live in CA though. The deal isn't as good, but good enough for me.

But even with all that said, i really do hope that I get my rebate

the rebate website is www.panacer.com

it seems to exist just fine.

seems like a good deal, assuming it works out. the specs are basically that of an LCD 2 years old . but for $100 or so after shpiping and tax and such, its a great deal.

I think the $70 rebate is a big YMMV. That panacer website seems shady, hosting another site with a link to yet another rebate status page (which does seem to be up, but no way of checking without having info already).

Note also the rebate says it must be postmarked within 14days of purchase, so, could be tight if they don't ship right away. Still tempting...

[edit] Ordered one. We'll see. Looks like most other places had it for $240+ and then the rebate, so, could be a mistake too. [/edit]

Darn it! I was reading through this thread, nearly intent on buying one of these, only to read these last few posts and check the website. :|

Looks like they caught a pricing error. Buyers elsewhere have started getting cancellation emails. 🙁

I just called eCost in regards to my order. They said that although it was a price mistake, they are still going to honor the sale. So they are going to ship them. Mine is going to get out today.

i thought all 17" LCDs did 1280x1024 native.

Plus this has a 30ms response time!? yikes.

ok. they honored it, but i ordered 2 and they only shipped 1, i wanted to upgrade my 2 15's with 17's (middle is a 19"), what the hell am i gonna do with one 17" ?

Deals dead, but, bumpage because I received mine today. Box says 450:1 Contrast ratio but doesn't list the refresh specs or brightness values. Looks pretty nice though, better than what the specs would indicate, imo.

Considering the 19" panel has a 450:1 contrast ratio my assumption is that the 17" specs on the net are understated.

Overall nice deal and glad ecost honored their prices. I made changes to the following (in bold) based on what's in the book that came with the panel:
