<< Well, I ordered thru the website for local store pickup, pay-by-check. I wanted to examine the box before purchase. I browsed their stock and saw nothing that looked like a Lite-On. The box said "Buffer underrun technology", but no brand name like "Just burn" or "Safe burn" like the Lite-On or Mitsumi boxes have. The s/n's of all of them started with "EACxxx...". So, I decided to pass on the deal. If anyone has better info on these drives, please post here. >>

well...."EAC...." is a CyberDrive CW038D..:Q

<< You will NOT get a Lite-on. Be prepare. I am going to put it on a low cost computer (below $400) for a friend. It will be better than a CD-ROM drive for the same money. >>

looks to be a decent CD-RW Burn Proof and all......

goto www.pricegrabber.com and search the model # U30105

heres a copy of the description for you lazy/trustworthy folks.

The Pacific Digital 161040ei CD-RW is an internal EIDE Burn-Proof® 16x10x40 CD-RW drive. It writes CD-R and CD-RW media at 16X speeds and reads CD-ROMs at 40X speeds. The fastest drive on earth! Optimum write speed control automatically selects the best recording speed given a disk's capability and recording conditions. This exclusive write strategy maximizes stability of the recording environment by combining a large buffer memory, CAV writing support for on-the-fly data backup, and specific fine-tunings to the recording software, resulting in elimination of buffer underruns and waste of media.

😱 sorry about the edits my links didnt workText

I don't understand how they could be OOS so soon on the day a sale is starting. I was up very early, saw this post and tried to order around 6:00 am and they were already OOS. I find it hard to believe that hords of people were up before 6 this Sunday morning because they knew about this deal and wanted a 16x burner.

Somebody must have screwed up somewhere in ordering/delivering and if they don't get them in soon the rebate will be meaningless.

In stock for me. Just picked one up. After coupon code, rebate (if I get it), and taxes, will be $33 for me. Very good deal unless the quality is horrible. Thanks for the heads up, Isman.

ScrapSilicon: CDRInfo has a review of this drive. How did you learn that the EAC s/n's are CyberDrive? Do you (or anyone?) have experience with these? From the review, apart from slow ripping speeds, it doesn't seem too bad.

"I called my local OD to find out if they take online coupon codes and said there is no way for their register to take codes. After BS, I still have to deal with the damn rebate. No worth the hassle."
that's it right there. YOU CALLED. i got printed mailer right here with code saying to take it into od, how can their registers NOT take codes? anybody who remembers the $20 off $20 fiasco can verify this also. od employee want to get you off the phone so he/she/they can get back to macking on the other cashier/being surly/surfing the net on od computer. blah.

Interestly, I haggle with rep about the coupon and she kept saying that's what the manager said. She even suggested I talk to the manager but as usual put me on hold so I hung up after while. What ticks me off is that it's the same damn company and they are playing games.

then just take down her name (ask politely), and ask for the manager's name. then call back a little later/next day and ask for him/her (the manager)

Hey thanks for the heads up.

I think their site is undergoing some maintanece right now, because I use the coupon, click go shopping, and then it just keeps asking for my zip.

I guess i will try again later...

I have the drive right here...picked it up Sunday while out for lunch. The S/N is on the outside of the box.Opened the box ( yes the box says 16x10x40 but the contents ..looks just like whats shown on cdrinfo..a 16x12x40..)and that's what is on the sticker on the drive...EAC1211xxxxx is the S/N and "CW038D" is there also. Beats the crap out of a Ben-Q/BTC anyday of the week.😀 And yes I have the upgraded version(CW058D ...32x12x48..came in a PineTechnology box marked as a 32x10x40 from BB..but I knew better ,at that time, what EAC meant..getting ..old..memory going..lol ) so this CW038D is good to go according cdrinfo.

Alright, I just did it, used the coupon link, then added the Item, by number, was 69... 40 MIR takes it to $29.99! Thanks again!

Just ordered mine online and arranged for in-store pickup later today. Everything looks good.

Thanks to ScrapSilicon and Lanyap for their help on this. 😀

Thanks for the post. Ordered one today for a new box. Can't believe you can get a 16X burner now for what a standard CD-ROM cost just a little while ago. With taxes, mine came to about $34.00. Good deal.

<< from now thru April 20,
office depot has this cdrw for 89.99 - 40MIR = 49.99, find a 20 off 75 coupon and you can have it for 29.99.
order by #928731
come handy for low cost computer. 🙂

Can I have the coupon code a 20 off 75 coupon? Thanks
😎

Ordered mine online and arranged to pick it up at the Office Depot in Sylmar, CA. They had 2 more in stock as of noon today.

A label on the drive itself identifies it as a CyberDrive. WinPro's Device Manager sees it as a CyberDrive CD038D.

Same here. I hope the coupon will be honored!

Doh. I've tried multiple times to get an order through online for a local pickup. But on the last page i get a page with a checkbox saying it's to be taken out of my cart due to availability.

Funny thing is, i went to my local OD and they had... get this, 7 of it available.

I tried nicely and asked numerous people if i can use the online coupon to no avail. 🙁

Btw, they also had the 24x10x40 for $79 after $20MIR.

Just picked up mine today. Once more, I have reinterate the folks at OD are morons. I waited for another 1/2 hour for the whole deal to go thru. BTW, when they say it will be ready in 4 hours for pick up, don't believe it.

Just have 3 more over at Fremont OD. BTW, taking the coupon over at register is doable no matter what they say. The manager I dealt with thought I had another coupon code to use and was about to do it. To bad I didn't have another one at the time! On the freaking phone, they said they can't take online coupons. Bastards!
