DEA to reschedule marijuana?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/dea-marijuana-reschedule_us_5704567de4b0537661881644

The Drug Enforcement Administration plans to decide whether marijuana should reclassified under federal law in “the first half of 2016,” the agency said in a letter to senators.

DEA, responding to a 2015 letter from Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and seven other Democratic senators urging the federal government to facilitate research into marijuana’s medical benefits, doesn’t indicate whether it will reclassify marijuana as less dangerous.

...
Place your bets. I would like to believe that the Obama admin will finally make this right.

I'm going to go out on a limb and give this even odds. A lot of reefer madness idiots have kicked the bucket in the last 10 years or so, and there is really no denying the medical and safety benefits pot has racked up already.

Do it Obama, add this DEA bullshit to the list of stupid old laws you got changed.

This would be huge for his legacy. If be disappointed if he didn't do it, esp when he knows it's bullshit.

If he doesn't, the GOP or Clinton likely won't do it.

Considering the only two candidates who have said the current policy is BS are Rand Paul and Bernie Sanders, I'd say that's fairly accurate.

I believe that it's coming and it's about damned time. Equating it to heroin in severity was purely a political move, not reality. Now that the people are pushing through legalization, leaving it as a Schedule 1 drug makes it obvious that the law was stupid in the first place. Choking on some nice Dark Side of the Moon shatter right now. I picked it up at the local shop while out running around today. I also got some Banana Kush and Granddaddy Purple shatters while I was at it.

I'll choke a few down for those of you who can't do so yet (legally, that is!)... 🙂

I think he'll do it. I give it 60/40. The reason is the polling shows a majority favor legalization. Obama has a tendency to formulate policy based on polls. Doesn't really matter why he does it though, so long as he does it.

LOL, Colorado did it, and we aren't anything special.

I'll bet Obama won't do it, because he loves being in control. He's a Socialist.

Speaking of the devil.
My nephews company just conducted a surprise drug test raid on their warehouse employees this week.
Either pee in the cup, or clean out your locker and go home.
The pee flowed into little plastic cups.
28 failed and were fired on the spot, 13 given three-day suspension to provide a doctors excuse for why they might have tested positive, and three simply walked out without submitting.

So as I envisioned this, the security gestapo probably had to first find a place to put out their cigarette, slurp down their lunchtime cocktail, before handing out the plastic cups.
Like no one ever dropped dead from tobacco, alcohol, or overdosing on too many twinkles.

Tobacco, alcohol and 23 ounce big gulps are fine. Heart attacks are fine. Strokes are fine. Cancer is fine. Liver damage is fine. Drunk driven murder is fine. Diabetes is fine.
But a little marijuana?
Oh no....
Mustn't do THAT.

Politics.... Go figure....
I guess its who you know.
And which side has the most paid lobbyist.

Until they all are held accountable, accountable for all the millions of deaths from cancer, millions of deaths from head on collisions, millions of 200 pound twelve year olds, and millions in insurance costs, I think they should legalize it all.
Everything.
If a government, a society, is not gong to be consistent then why pretend?
What the F does it even matter?

A person I respect very much, told me once that we shouldn't be attacking people for the idea that they are doing wrong, but only when they do wrong.

There's nothing wrong with being high, unless it impacts your work, etc.

Marijuana should be treated just like alcohol and tobacco cigarettes. Tax the hell out of it, educate the public on it's side effects and sell it legally.

so that place is now down 31 employees, potentially 45 or so, what % of the workforce is that and how will it impact the facility

There is probably a reason they did this. I bet they wanted to shrink the workforce and avoid paying unemployment.

The most remarkable part is that management types often believe that piss testing indicates intoxication at the time of the test when it does no such thing. It merely indicates prior use.

It's pure authoritarianism.

All the folks who think the President has control of the DEA, thanks you made my day. /chuckle /snort

So true.

It's highly unlikely that the DEA will re-schedule. That will probably require an act of Congress. They have 1000 excuses to the contrary & a vested interest in the status quo. The war on marijuana is half the war on drugs.

There is probably a reason they did this. I bet they wanted to shrink the workforce and avoid paying unemployment.

Dunno where you've worked, but upper management doesn't need a reason to do anything. They often function on the basis of simulated rationality.

I feel as though legalization of marijuana is inevitable.

Although, I am puzzled as to why so many people clamor for it to happen. Legalization of an addictive substance benefits who exactly?

Anybody who gets caught in the war on drugs. We have hundreds of thousands of people in our prisons over this crap. And thousands of people in northern Mexico die every year. And thousands die in other countries over the drug trade.

Brother In Law runs testing company.
Brother in Law need warehouse job.
Management is attempting to justify their salary.
If someone is not performing get rid of them.

marijuana isn't addictive so the basis for your point is null.

lol, is that old lie still floating around?

BTW I don't have a problem with legalization, I'm just one of those realists that doesn't subscribe to all the 'benefits' of things like Wine and Weed. People do them to get high and buzzed.

Anything can be addictive, marijuana isn't especially so (I've seen it mentioned that it is less addictive than caffeine). Even if it is addictive to some users, tell me why it's the government's job to stop people from getting addicted to it. I don't see why it matters. Some people get addicted to video games, some to sugary food, some to plastic surgery, etc. Seems like a silly reason for the government to restrict rights.
