Mostly just funny.

"Everyone was pretty shaken up," Farmer said. "But the point of gun safety hit home. Unfortunately, the agent had to get shot. But after seeing that, my nephew doesn't want to have anything to do with guns."

Even with all of the disturbing things going on intentionally within the government these days, it's comforting to know there's still room for that good ol' fashioned ineptitude.

Police ruled the shooting was an accident, but the DEA headquarters in Washington was still investigating, Kilmer said.

Wtf? The guy shot himself in front of 50 witnesses who will all confirm the same story. What is there to investigate?

He asked someone to look inside the gun to confirm it wasn't loaded. It could have been a blown head instead of a blown leg.

To find out who sent this idiot on guntraining when he clearly needs more training himself:

He drew his .40-caliber duty weapon and removed the magazine, according to the police report. Then he pulled back the slide and asked someone in the audience to look inside the gun and confirm it wasn't loaded, the report said.

Witnesses said the gun was pointed at the floor and when he released the slide, one shot fired into the top of his left thigh.

The kid that "looked" into the barrel of the gun could've been killed.

He took out the mag but didn't check the chamber!

Fuggin idiot.

it didn't say he looked down the barrel...remember, this was a semiauto, when you pull back the slide you can see into it. He was *probably* trying to make the point that even when you take out the mag, there can still be a bullet in the chamber, obviously it didn't go off as planned though:)

Nothing like a little ole unfounded fear of guns. Get over yourself, stupid bedwetting wusses.
Most people have no need whatsoever for a semi-automatic handgun. I would say the basic premise that "handguns are inherently dangerous" is quite reasonable. I imagine the children (and adults) in attendance that desire a handgun . . . will feel an almost irresistable urge to get appropriate training.

Did the NRA radio program cover this event?

Not sure, I didn't even know they have a radio program.

And, yes, people should be properly trained in the use of firearms. To think otherwise is ludicrous.

Curiously, I couldn't find a reference on their site but I'm almost positive they bought a radio station.

I wish we had more company on that account.

Really? What does training accomplish? After all, a highly trained firearms expert nearly blew his leg off.

... I wasn't referring specifically to this incident, as people are, well, people, and mistakes do happen. However, even basic training in the use of firearms can decrease accidents. That's all.

What would you like me to say the remedy should be? More training for DEA agents?

Even with all of the disturbing things going on intentionally within the government these days, it's comforting to know there's still room for that good ol' fashioned ineptitude.

ALL Negligent Discharges (there are no accidents) are due to failure to follow the rules:

RULE I: ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

RULE II: NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO DESTROY

RULE III: KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

RULE IV: BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET

Addendum to Rule IV: BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT LIES BEHIND IT

Very important when trap/target shooting and hunting. : )

Man, been a while since I've read those axioms.

I would edit that one out . . . only segregationist Republican senators from the South can say such things about the President.
