de_dust + "HDR" = dog poo

Anyone else check it out yet? Looks horrible. After seeing REAL HRD done well in Oblivion I had to go back and look at Lost Coast and DoD:S again and I can't believe I thought Valve's HDR looked nice before. 😛uke;

Oh, and it also reminded me why I don't play Counter-Strike anymore. After 5 minutes of playing some douchebag kept shooting people in the head right as the game started.

I don't know why they bother putting HDR into their MP games because it is a serious disadvantage, and nobody will ever actually use it (unless they like getting killed by that unrecognizable silhouette that just came running out of the sunlight).

thats why you don't play in pubs with FF on. play in a clan server and get to know the admins, then you can get retards owned. 😀

Yes, I know, I don't have the patience to "make friends" in CS:S

I think they made a mistake with HDR in Dust. If you put on just bloom in the settings, it makes the map SO bright that its basicaly unplayable. On the other hand, if you put it to full HDR, then it looks fine...but does take a hit in the performance.

Its a great map...if you're a CT. Otherwise you can either
A: Walk through the underground way, coming out into an area that you can be shot at from 4 directions, all of which are higher ground.
B: Go the only way that you have a chance in hell, which will be heavily covered if the CTs have half a brain.

Your only hope as a T is to rush hard and early and try to secure the bombsite fast. Which the CTs will always be ready to counter if they've ever played the map before.

The map should be called "Terrorists lose, repeatedly." Its an unbalanced POS, and I have no idea why its so popular.

I dunno. Personally, I prefer being a T on that map. Rushing is awesome IMO, however, I agree that it is a little unbalanced. I can safely say that if I were to play 100 rounds as a T, no more than 10 times would we go to Bomb site A and no more than 20 times go the underground way.
It's fun being on the team with the disadvantage IMO, you get more action 😛 Just gotta grenade that one tunnel on your way to B and then rush rush rush and watch the doors

Of all the times I've played dust, only once was I on a T team that was dominating. We used the same strategy repeatedly, and it was remarkably simple. We all rushed hard and fast to the left bomb site and secured it early. You had to be suicidal to get to that site first. I and a lot of my team seemed to be running straight while blinded by flashbangs because we actually knew slowing down would result in losing anyway.

What was remarkable was that the entire team would do it, on a pub. Typically 4 guys rush and the rest camp the round out for the loss. I still blame the CT team for being awful more then anything. It seems to be the strategy for victory as CT is to push 75% of the team to the right to secure the good bomb site, the other 25% goes to the bridge. They both kind of meet up in the center and then fan out to cover the main entry points. If you stop the initial rush on that map and get the choke points secured the Ts are basically fvcked...forced to camp or walk into the death zone.

The only thing that fvcks it up is when the match has a long timer and the CTs go rambo into T camp zones. The Ts want this because their only hope for victory is to wear down the other team's numbers before the last hoora.

Being on the losing team is only fun most of the time because it gives me an excuse to use cheap guns I normally wouldn't buy.

I agree 110%. Been playing CS off/on since release(7 or so years ago) when I am on T I just rush to B as quickly as possible 95% of the time. But even then someone is flashing/nading me 50% of the time. That map is ok but if the CT has good players it makes the game a bit unfair. Dust2 is by far better and by far the best map for CS:S IMO. I could not play another map for CS:S and be happy.

But on the other hand I think Compound is unfair but the other way around. T has the advantage over CT because when your coming around the gate they have several places to pick you off from.

dust2 like nearly all the stock maps becomes drastically uneven as soon as the player count starts hitting the mid 40s+

piransei is one of the few that can hold a 50/50 victory all the way into a mid 50+ player count

I don't have that issue myself. I try to stick with no more than 6vs6 much more than that the game just sucks IMO. I don't think CS:S is made for more than 10vs10 but thats just me.

loaded it up, yea update. damn i played it right b4 they updated grr . anyways it looks like sh*t. seems like a lack of detail from over bloom? i dunno, other maps that were hdr looked better. but this one looks too hazy. atleast on my 6600gt. then again i normally run hdr off, i'd rather have 60fps than 30 in multiplayer🙂

Compound is pretty bad too, but no one plays that map much anymore so its easier to not complain about. The best strategy I've seen for that map is liberal use of smoke bombs by the cargo containers to try and get past the snipers. All other approaches seem to be as much luck as strategy.

Dust2 isn't to bad, but I've gotten pretty tired of it. Nuke is pretty fun.

Most maps in CS seem pretty unbalanced though.

If you've been around since CS was born... Dust is the most overplayed, overrated piece of sh1t map ever created. Granted I've never touched CS:S, and haven't played CS in... who knows how long now (sometime shortly after 1.0 I quit playing), but somehow I doubt the map has changed enough to make me want to sit through 30 consecutive matches on that sh1t (fvcking be creative with your map votes for christ's sake).

I suppose if you never experienced gun running or "OMFG 24/7 SEIGE SERVER FTFW" you might think Dust is the best thing since sliced bread though.

My personal all-time favorite maps would have to be cs_militia, cs_docks, as_oilrig, cs_assault and de_prodigy.

cs_militia = more unbalanced than dust
AWP roof campers + tunnel campers = 🙁
cs_docks = can't remember playing it 😛
as_oilrig = FUN, but only when you're the VIP/on VIP's team.. otherwise it's just stupid cause you have to camp the whole time
cs_assault = Sweet map 🙂 too many modifications, though... some better than others/original (some worse)
de_prodigy = deathmatch map

in de_dust if i'm playing more than 8v8 i usually just wait in my spawn for a minute or so. that way the idiots that need to die get cleared out fast.. then it makes it more enjoyable.

i really like dust2 as i think it works well for both teams
