De-RAID and then Re-RAID??? HELP!

Building a new P4, 1.6GHz using an ASUS P4T-E M/B and an IWILL SIDE-100 add-on RAID card.

Plan on taking the two (2) IBM 30GB 75GXP H/D?s out of a ABIT KT-7R system now using RAID. (Striping).

So, my question is this:

Do I FDISK/format the RAID array first while it is in the ABIT system and then install them in the ASUS P4 system? And hold off loading the O/S until it is in the new system?

I want to be assured that any RAID formatting has been removed from them prior to installing in the new system, and my build expertise is limited.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

i did a variation of this when i clean installed winxp on the same system.

1. back up all your data
2. in your raid card bios, select "delete array"
3. power down the comp and plug in one hd at a time into the mobo, and wipe zeroes to the drive (IBM has a utility for this)
4. BEFORE u install the os on the new comp, plug in your raid card, plug in the two drives, let it boot so that the raid card says "no array present" and enter the bios and define ure array
5. install ure os of choice. if it is win2k or winxp, be sure to press F6 at the beginning (a prompt comes up), and later on when windows asks which partition/drive to install the os to, you should have only one (raided) drive showing up as "raw" if you wrote zeroes.

cheers

Thanks, Mr. Wart for your quick reply and concise instructions!

I had a feeling I had to wipe 0's, but wasn't sure. I guess one would say wiping 0's is the same as a Format, only deeper, yes?

I saw the wipe pgm on IBM's site, but thought it said just for drives to 8GB, I'll go back and check again.

Thank you so much for taking the time to help me, it is greatly appreciated!

no problem mate. yes, writing zeroes is a much more elemental change for the hard drive than just fdisk-ing it. if u have any more questions PM me.
