*TAKEN FROM A VR-ZONE.com TEST* Using Twinmos PC3700 @ 2.5-3-3-7 they achieved DDR504 @ 2.9v. Memory scores in Sandra were 5789/5810MB/s. Pretty impressive! I still think im going to go with the Twinmos CH-5 PC3200 though.

Based on your config I would recommend going with a lower wattage PS and get better drives. Going to a True 430 would save you just about enough to upgrade to a pair of 8MB cache 80GB drives. Even with heavy overclocking you won't come close to straining a 430 and you will save about $50.

I also think your component balance is a bit out of whack when looking at 1GB of memory with only a 4200 card. I can understand if you are waiting for a new card or planning on upgrading or never want to play Doom III of course or are running an app that actually needs that much memory.

Obviously everyone builds their machine based on the apps they want to run but you might want to look at what percentage of your budget is going toward each of the components you are purchasing and compare that to how much each impacts your performance. I like playing games and run a lot of business apps and I don't want to have to upgrade for another year so I spent a bit more on my video card as a percentage of my system cost, I also set aside a percentage of my budget to make sure my system looked pretty cool as his was something I wanted to do and could afford a few bells and whistles. I had spare drives for backup and storage so I only needed a fast OS disk with plenty of "Program Files" growth. I could have gone with an 875P board, dual channel memory and a pair of Raptors in RAID 0 but the relatively small increase in performance was not worth the additional cost to me.

I already have the 4200 and the PSU, got them both for $100 total new so I couldn't pass it up.

i aggree, except for one thing, memory has absolutely nothing to do with video card. Fomr what your saying, should he go with 256 MB of ram and a 9800 pro? that will perform worse then a gf3 ti200 and 1GB ram in ut2k3. You can never have too much ram, the more the better, applications start needed more and more memory very fast as time passes, 3 years ago, 64MB ram was HUGE, now look where it is, if you had 64MB now, you either couldnt run stuff, or you swap like crazy, get as much ram as possible, but dont go overboard and make everything else week to get more ram, an athlon 950Mhz with 2 Gb of ram wont be too fast, but an athlon xp 2000 with 1GB will.

GeIL needs 2.75 to run by default, your point being? ALL DDR-Ram is rated to run @ 2.8v and be within spec. 2.9V isn't much worse.

i'm using GeIL Ultra Platinum PC3500, mem-timings at 6-3-3 with 2.7v, according to specifications of GeIL USA Website.
