I was told this motherboard can only use RAM that's PC3200 and slower.
So, if I buy those DDR500 sticks, will they perform as DDR400 memory?

Welcome. At stock settings yes. The extra speed won't help unless you overclock.

I fully intent to overclock.
But will the PC4000 RAM act as PC3200 or not?

it will down itself all the way down to pc2100 if you tell it too. most if not all ram is backwards compatible.

edit: make that "similar types are backwards compatible" ie pc4000 can be used as pc2100 if you want to waste money but obviously it won't fit into a pc100/133 slot or rambus etc.

Yeah, but would DDR500 work as DDR500 on a board that, according to specifications, has DDR400 slots?

yes. The standard is pc3200 but it will work all the way up to pc4800 and all the way down the pc2100. You just have to adjust it. Just DDR2 won't work.

yes it will, slots are slots it's what you clock it at (fsb) that makes the speed. like praxis said it won't run at ddr 500 unless you clock it at ddr500.

i have an ic-7 with a 3.0 prescott at 3.8 with (ocz gold pc4000 1:1) at 254fsb or ddr508.

I've been out of the loop for years.
By "clocking it", you guys mean manually adjusting FSB in the BIOS?

yup...

ddr500=250mhz=pc4000, ddr400=200mhz=pc3200...

if u set defaults in bios the memory will (should) come up at 200mhz...

i've used a single stick of hyperxpc4000 in an ultra-d... it booted fine at 200... then i pushed it up to 278 at spd timings... then i pushed up the voltage and went to 2.5 3 3 10...

what mobo?

OCing is why I picked it.
I love the amount of control my current NF7-S gives me.
