Gday, I'm planning on upgrading soon from my PII 450 which i'll probably sell to a museum. I'll get a 2.4C, I want to hit 3.0gig by raising the FSB to 250Mhz. Question 1) Is this reasonable with aircoolong? I plan on using a Zalman 7000cu HSF. Question 2) Am I better off using DDR500 (I can get A-data DIMMS very cheap compared to Corsair/Geil) or DDR 400 with better timings like 2-2-2-5, eg Corsair TwinX? Every site I go to has something different to say about PC4000 RAM, tomshardware loved it but anadtech not so much. Thanks gentlemen

get some good pc3200 with tight timings & use the 5:4 memory divider for running 250fsb!

You don't state what motherboard you plan to use.

The motherboard memory controllers tend to favor some memory chips. For example, Corsair TWINX PC3200C2 performed poorly on my 8RDA+, but cheaper BuffaloTech PC3700 is outstanding.

I suggest you visit brand-specific motherboard forums and investigate which memory works best with your board of choice.

Hope this helps!

I'm going to use an 865 PE board, either asus p4p800 or MSI Neo2. Thanks for the help

lots of arguments about what's better...

5:4 with tighter timings or 1:1 with looser timings...

i think they are almost equal ... though 5:4 with tighter may be a little better...

but if possible, i'd try to go 1:1 and push it as high as possible...

ocz pc4000el copper have been known to push upwards of 280+ mhz at 1:1 with 3-4-4-8 timings

good stuff :)

but i dunno about the msi board... i know that the p4c800e is a great board...
