So, none of the newer boards like the P5K or P5N-E SLI would even accept the 400 Mhz DDR?

I would say trade in your DDR RAM and get an Intel DG33FBC or better DP35DP MB. Good stable MBs with 1333 bus support at a nominal price, that will also support 45 nm processors. Price Rs 7000-7500 (Pak Rs), must be even cheaper in India.

Just a moment. Before we get carried away, do those boards support DDR400? Cause I really do not want to get into the hassle of selling or trading it yet.

DrLynx - I'm pretty sure that they don't support DDR400. The ASRock boards may be good options, though you may want to ensure that they have enough physical DDR slots. If you've got 2x2GB, you're probably fine, but I don't know if the ASRock motherboards have 4 DDR slots (which would make it impossible to run 4x1GB).

Go to newegg.com and select 'motherboards' and then 'advanced search'. From there you can specify looking for motherboards with an LGA775 socket that have DDR400 support. Newegg lists the motherboard specifications as well, so you can see just how many DDR400 slots the motherboard has.

Cheers.

Intel 865 (2003) was the last Intel chipset that supports DDR SDRAM. There is no NVIDIA chipset supporting DDR SDRAM. There are several VIA chipsets that support DDR.

ASRock 4CoreDual is popular because it supports both DDR/DDR2 SDRAM and both AGP/PCIE graphics cards, hence allows reusing old components and allows upgrading in future.

Also, in the next few days, switching to DDR2 wouldn't be as painful as you think. Right now, there is a great deal for HP-branded DDR2-667 memory (which will work in a motherboard with support for DDR2-800). There is a hefty rebate, but a lot of folks here have bought it and had no problems getting the rebate.

The current deal is from TechOnWeb: http://www.techonweb.com/produ...tdetail.aspx?id=D30292. It comes to $8.95 for each 1GB stick, up to five maximum per customer. That's around $36.00 to replace your 4GB of DDR400. I imagine you can sell your DDR400 on ebay for that much (or here on the for sale forum). The rebate only lasts through 10/31, but it is a heckuva deal. I just ordered 3 sticks myself, as I'm upgrading from an old 3700+ system.

renethx - I agree, though I think that the downside of that board is that the PCIe slot is limited to x4 (not x16) bandwidth, which would slow higher-end GPUs down a little, and there are only 2 DDR400 slots (which means that if Lynx has 4x1GB, he wouldn't be able to use them all). Still, I don't think that there are *any* Core2 motherboards out there that have 4 DDR400 slots, so that's not really a 'downside' of the board in some sense.

I have a Athlon 64 3500+ processor with a Asus A8N-E motherboard. I have 4 GB of DDR 400 or PC3200 or 400 Mhz DDR RAM.

My motherboard conked off last week. Seems like 939 boards are totally out of the market (our local market atleast - India). I can either go for a Asus A8Vxx board that had been sitting in the dust for over two years or I can buy a Intel Quad Q6600 and a good motherboard.

But, the problem is that, everything seems to be supporting DDR2. I do not know if mine is DDR2 or DDR1. How do I find this out?

Plus, they are all supporting 800 Mhz. Mine is just 400 Mhz. Will this memory work? I really do not wish to throw off 4 GB of RAM. If it will work, will it slow down the board's bus speed thus bringing all speed down giving me no advantage of the upgrade? I have heard that in Intel boards, the two bus speeds are separate but I just want to confirm.

Thanks in advance.
I have a ECS P4M800PRO-M, it has a SIS chipset which allows either DDR or DDR2 and S775. As the name implies, its limited to 800MHz FSB. Also it has a memory limit of 2GB of either flavor, I've used both DDR and DDR2 on it equally well, but never together.

I'm not aware of a S775 MB that allows 4GB of DDR.

Had you considered a used S939 MB to use your 4GB of DDR?
