Question DDR4 DRAM prices to drop 15% soon.

If you have a good DDR4 rig, now (very soon) is a good time to "max it out" for RAM, if you plan to "buckle down" and wait for the 2nd-wave of DDR5-based systems, before doing a whole platform upgrade.

Prices I've seen are 2x16GB kit of Neo Forza DDR4-3600 for $89.99 @ Newegg on sale. I expect prices to go lower.

I still have my computer with ddr3 that I built 2015 and will skip ddr4 altogether and build a new system with ddr5 in 2022 just hope the prices will not be astronomical with computer hardware.

looks like it will not be to bad of a price premium.

The thing is with the transition from dd3 to ddr4, the first gen of dd4 was not any faster in practice then the last gen of ddr3.

I am thinking DDR5 will be the same way. The cas latencies of those first gen sticks appear to me to give them higher latency then last gen ddr4 sticks.

Yes, they have the bandwidth, but not perhaps not as much as we expect. The bandwidth numbers are 50% increase in ddr5 jedec bandwidth vs ddr4 jedec bandwidth. That sounds good, but what we are actually going to be comparing is last gen dd4 XMP bandwidth.

ddr4 jedec speeds are capped at 1600 Mhz. ( 3200 )
the most popular speed for ddr4 is 1800 Mhz ( 3600 ), about 12% faster then jedec
but dd4 can also be found at 2200 Mhz ( 4400 ), about 37% faster then jedec

When combined with ddr4's lower cas timings, I would speculate first gen dd5 is not going to be any faster then last gen ddr4 xmp in most applications.

I saw it in a YT vid, they were quoting "TheRegister". (They showed the article.)

Edit: Figured, just when DDR4 pricing was really "Getting good", they go and have an Earthquake in Taiwan. Can't we consumers catch a break?
