DDR2 used with a P4E Prescott and a C2D 6300?

I'm building most of a system for someone who currently has a P4 2.8E Prescott CPU. They don't have the budget for a new C2D right now, so I'm wondering if we can buy a 2 X 1GB kit of DDR2 800 now and use it with both CPUs? I know I can get a system board like this one: ECS 945GZT that supports Core 2 Duo / Pentium D / Pentium 4 / Celeron D CPUs, but something is telling me it's too good to be true.

Probably not. Most likely not.

The problem with the board, however, is that it supports only a 800MHz FSB (Quad pumped) stock. All of the X6XXX series Allendales and Conroes (C2D) have 1066MHz FSB (Quad pumped) and soon will have 1333MHz FSB (QP) so it is compatibility issue. Also, the board only supports up to DDR2 533 stock. I'm not sure if DDR2 800 will work on it.

well, if it's a 2.8E, then it's either a Socket 478 or it has a 533MHz bus. Most likely, however, being a 2.8E, it's a S478, making it incompatible with any C2D.
Sorry I didn't pick up on that before.

Spend the money on good ram and a decent motherboard, then buy A $50 Ceder Mill P4. Upgrade that when the time comes.
