Can the mobos that support DDR2 533/600 memory, use the simple DDR400, or they have different slots?
 
Some 915P based boards have slots for both, but you can't mix and match DDR and DDR2 in the same slots.

Anyway, they have different slots and are not compatible - i.e., no and yes.

THere are Socket 775 boards that use's an 875 chipset that supports DDR1 and AGP8x. DDR2 currently offers NO significant performance worth its extra premium, stick with DDR1.🙂

You can add the Asus P5GDC-V Deluxe to that list as well. It's a 915G chipset board with slots for both DDR and DDR2 RAM, but you can only use one type at a time.
 
Most of you are wrong. Acording to JDEC white papers DDR2 must be 100% backward compatable with DDR1. It is up to motherboard manufacturers to decide if their boards are going to support DDR1 or not. Since they both use differant slots. It would be technicly possible acording to JDEC for a 240 pin (vs 184) DDR1 DIMM but no one at this time makes one. And that reminds me of EDO(an obsolete technology) They make 168pin EDO modules that can run in a PC 66/100/133 memory slot for motherboards that have all of their 72PIN SIMM slots filled.

that may be true but i am reminded by the ECS K75SA board that had both SDR and DDR ram slots, you could not use both at the same time, but older boards you could use both SDRAM and EDO/FPM modlules also....

but im leaning towards using both (DDR1&2) would be a bad idea.
