DDR2 Memory question

My MB is ASRock 775Dual-VSTA - It supports DDR2 667 & DDR 400. I currently used 1 GB DDR400. I want to upgrade to 2 GB DDR2. Since I want to re-used the ram in the future in case I upgrade my MB, I would like to buy DDR2 800 rather than DDR2 667. Would I have trouble/preformance loss with the RAM underclock like this?

Thanks.

P.S. Or should I just get the DDR2 667 and worry about future upgrade later?

You won't suffer any performance by choosing the DDR2 800 over the 667. Should you choose to overclock at all, you will have a little bit more to gain with the DDR2800 as it is rated higher.

Future proof is the way to go. DDR2800

Typically, higher rated RAM will have larger latency numbers. It may be a tiny bit slower, but I think you'll be able to manually set the timings to something tighter. Bottom line it should work fine.

Thanks for the quick replies. Just got myself this. RAM
Seems like a lot of people buying it based on the number of reviews. 🙂

I have been looking at this ram for sometime now. The price has definately come down. It was aroun $270 when i was looking at it.

It was considered very good ram last year but then I thought I read somewhere that cosair didn't use the micron chips for this mem set. Is that true? Is that why the price dropped? Are they still good?

I think they are still good.

I know what you mean about the prices though. That was an ongoing with a lot of memory. However, memory, along with HD, is just falling now. Cheap cheap cheap!
