DDR2 and DDR???

Hi,
Wondering if the boards that support DDR2 also
support regular DDR memory.
Considering the ASUS P5GD2 Delux Board.
Will my regular ddr memory work or is ddr2
totally different???
Ken

ddr2 memory is totally different, not backwards compatable. some boards have slots for ddr and ddr2 though.

P5GD2 Deluxe only supports DDR2.

If you want both DDR&DDR2 you have P5GDC-V Deluxe (915G chipset). If you only need DDR then there is P5GD1-VM (915G chipset)

With the P5P800 (865PE chipset) you have DDR but with the new LGA775 socket (no PCI Express though).

Thanks everyone for the info. Was hoping to get along
for a while with my DDR memory. Man, you got to pretty
much trash everything you have to upgrade anymore.
I guess it's their way of getting us to spend bucks!!!
For me to upgrade I need;
New MB
New Chip
PCI-Express Card
DDR 2 Memory
What a hassle!!!
Thanks again, Ken

Stay with DDR1--there are still boards with that for LGA 775. DDR2 is expensive and not really worth it.

Just curious--why do you feel you need to upgrade from what you have?

He can answer for himself, but I suspect he's been bitten by the same addiction we all have here in these forums.

My antidote is to keep my Quicken checkbook program on the computer which tempts me most toward expensive upgrades 🙂

The reason I ask is because he lists a very nice and current setup that should handle virtually everything today can throw at it, and with parts like his motherboard, HSF, and RAM, that 3.2E could be overclocked reasonably well. To me, upgrading it for PCIe or DDR2, especially DDR2, at this point with that rig would be a complete waste of money.

There are still good motherboard for lga775 cpu's that use DDR and AGP, for example I am getting the Abit AS8. It uses the 865 chipset, has SATA raid, which I need, 8x AGP, so I don't have to replace my video card, and uses DDR, so I can keep my current memory, so there are still options out there, that wont' force you to replace everything.
