DDR2-800 or 1066 for X4 620?

I'm familiar with Intel builds, but my dad is building a new machine with the new X4 620 and GA-MA785GM-US2H.

I searched all over but couldn't find solid info on how the AMD stuff works. Will DDR2-1066 default to 800? If so, can you just change a bios setting to run 1066 memory at 1066 speed without OCing anything?

Get DDR2 1066, you may need to manually set it in the BIOS for it to run at that speed, but it'll run it without overclocking.

Getting 4 sticks to work @DDR2-1066 (3:8 divider) is extremely difficult. It shouldn't be too difficult w/ 2 sticks.

Do you have any legitimate reason for that opinion or is it completely baseless?

So it will default to 800, but can be set to 1066 by changing the divider. Thanks. And it'll be a 2x2GB kit whatever he happens to get.

This system isn't meant to be high performance by any means. Just something fast that multitasks well and play BD's someday.

For these needs I doubt the difference between 800 and 1066 would hardly make a difference.

One-liners like that are most likely the reason why nobody cares about your advice. Think about it.

Depends on the SPD setting.

If the RAM yer Pop purchased is DDR2-800 sold by the vendor as "DDR2-1066" (Factory OC'ed) it may default to 800MHz and you will have to manually enter settings in the BIOS.
