Greetings good fellows,

I am looking to upgrade a 5 year old system, but i'd like to keep everything possible. On a very tight budget. Im upgradeing the CPU and MoBo. Links below.

My question is, will this Mobo, be able to underclock my DDR2 400 ram? Or am I going to try and boot this sucker up and its going to try and force my RAM at 800? Im hopeing it will auto detect and under-clock accordingly. I would really rather not have to buy new DDR2 RAM, as it has no futureproofing for me.

Or perhaps someone has a better way to go about this?

Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-MA785GM-US2H
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103688

Don't upgrade, you don't know what you're doing.

edit: I'll at least answer, there is no DDR2 400, if you have DDR 400 then you can't upgrade, if you have DDR2 then it's actually double what you think it is.

Wow, this is the biggest brainfart I have had in 14 years of computer building. Its been too damn long since I upgraded last.

Why the hell did I think I had DDR2.

Thanks, my brain is working again.

There is such a thing as DDR2-400.

But do you have DDR2-400, or DDR400?

Sure there is.

OP if you have DDR-400 then no you can't use it. You would need DDR2.
