DDR tRAS settings with A64...

There was some discussion as to whether tRAS settings of 10-11 were better for performance on A64 than lower settings. While this was true in NForce2, I've done some testing of my own and have NOT found the same with A64 NewCastle 3000+ C0 on Chaintech VNF3-250.
In some of the latest reviews found on Anandtech, there was some mention of some testing done (using Membench) showing a 2-4% increase in memory bandwidth using 10 (or 11) over setting of 5, 6 or maybe 7. There was also mention of more information to be made available soon on an upcoming memory review...Has anyone seen this? Can anyone show me a link to better understand what's going on here?

yeah...This is kinda what I expected...

Still, no answer. Have you folks actually done the testing? Can you prove your results?:frown:

Lower is better for Intel and higher is better for AMD. I don't know what kind of proof you're looking for. This is just from my personal experience.

For me it doesn't really effect my bench scores at all and if it does it is slim to none I.E. within 1%

THANK YOU, JBT!!

FINALLY, someone has decided to do their own testing...like I did.
That was my WHOLE point... If anyone else cares to run the benches themselves, they'd see that there IS NO DIFFERENCE!
That is why I asked the question to begin with.
The reviewer for Anandtech has stated catagorically that tRAS setting of 10 gives best performance. This is simply NOT TRUE. I asked if there were some more information or if anyone else had done their own tests and all I get is guesses, opinions and attitude...

Relax man, not everybody can afford the newest stuff. Some of us can only read about it ATM. But it looks like you're ready to confirm your hypothesis on the basis of one other person. As more peeps move to the new platforms and do their testing/OC'ing we'll know the answer.

I will try it and see with my 3500+ athlon 64 939...
2.1Ghz AT 233MHz DDR for RAM

Not bad 466Mhz from PC3200 generic CL2 RAM LOL default voltage too.
I cant OC my CPU at all though. Not sure why.

Try it yourself. It's damn easy.

Simply make a memtest86 disk and boot up in each setting you want to look at. Look in the upper lefthand side of screen and it will tell you your bandwitdh. reboot ...rinse... repeat...Highest number wins. Should only take about 1 miniute.

I did...at several different settings. No difference.
I've used Memtest86 latest version AND Sandra Membench. Could it be something in the CPU stepping that's affecting the internal memory controller? Maybe the 3000+ C0 I have uses it's OWN settings, regardless of what I tell it to do.
Does this make any sense?
