DDR software overclock?

Hello all!

I have 2 sticks of DDR/SDRAM, it is Samsung 256 MB DDR 266MHZ. After putting in 512 MB TOTAL of DDR, which was replacing a 256 MB stick of reg. 133MHZ, I noticed very little difference, if any at all...

So just recently I wandered into the BIOS, and adjusted the memory settings. My board is an ECS K7S5A, for reference. Here are the default settings, and what i set them to:

SETTING | DEFAULT | MY SETTING
=============================================
Dram Timing Configuration | normal | ultra, best performance
SRD/DDR CAS Latency | SPD | 2T
SDR/DDR RAS ActiveTime | 6T | 6T
SRD/DDR Precharge Time | 4T | 3T
Auto Detect DIMM Clk | enab. | enab.
Clk Gen Spread Spectrum | disab. | disab.

my first question is, did I set everything right? I did a little research on the Net on each setting, but i was UNSURE of the last 2...

So, even after these settings (by the way, that ultra setting causes my pc to hang after a reboot, a problem experienced by someone from whom i got some info; it otherwise isnt a problem), I STILL am not seeing any great jump in performance.

I guess I've done all i can in the bios, so is there any SAFE software-based overclocking utility for memory? And has anyone ever used this Samsung memory? Can it handle it???

Thanks, hope I can get some help!!!

To my knowledge there is no way to oc your ram through software. Your DDR speed is related to your FSB speed and so if you oc your ram you will also oc your processor. You should be able to oc your system through your bios but make sure you have decent cooling first.

Your board may not support fsb adjustments in 1 mhz increments. If not I'm sorry b/c if your chip is a 100 mhz fsb then it most likely won't make 133 and if it's 133 then you're at full blast already. As to whether or not your board supports it, you'll have to look yourself or ask someone more experienced than me.
