I have been holding off a MB and CPU upgrade in high anticipation for DDR memory probably for 1 year. But last month I broke down and got myself a KT133A board and some more PC133 memory.

And now look what happens a few weeks after my upgrade!!

PC2100 is finally at the price point I want it to be at.

Argh.

Well up to a point. I like to time my purchases when something "revolutionary or evolutionary" comes out or when they JUST cut prices for CPU's.

Crucial used to have only pc1600 ddr ram, nice to see they've finally added pc2100, and especially that's it almost the same price as pc1600, and not too much more than pc133.

I think it's time to start saving for a DDR mobo and ram, but I still have to wait for Palomino t-birds. :)

Once second generation DDR boards come out I'm gonna have to think about getting that stuff.

Then how come Crucial is 50% cheaper than the lowest PC2100 from pricewatch?

why is that?

I wouldn't be surprised if AMD's 760 is better performing then Via's DDR Socket A solution. just like AMD's 750 managed to lay waste to Via's KX133.

The reason Crucial only had it up for the Gigabyte board is that that's the one that is in the Micron XP's. I'm sure its purely a testing issue, the RAM should work for ANY DDR mobo. I'm wrestling with buying two 128 sticks right now (should I atleast wait until I decide which DDR mobo to buy ;)

Hopefully dual channel DDR boards will come out, just like RDRAM has dual channel. You'll need to install in pairs, but I always put 256 megs in my mahcines at the minimum anyway. Might have to check out NVIDIA's chipset too, if it ever comes out.

You can set up 2 PC2100 stick dual channel. there is a informative thread on Amdmb.com under the Iwill section that dicusses it. I think the title of the thread is "This is the only post I will be looking at". there's something like 70 replies. Theres alos a few posts on HardOCP about it. And jackc20, please see my post here

Why pricewatch is more expensive?
Because it's generic, no brand, cheapy brand, low quality brand that can rip you more.
Factory direct sale is killing retailers and dealers.

i would wait til all the KT266 boards come out!

again why? you can get a DDR based chipset right now.. chances are, the performance you get out of this one will be better then Via's solutions, and I wouldn't want to go for nVidia's chipset unless it turns out as mature as Via's and AMD's or better (it's their first).
