DDR-RAM

Hello again.

I did not get any answer on my question about DDR-RAM last time so I ask you about it again.

I´ve got an question that some of you may find stupid but I wonder if it´s possible to run DDR-RAM on the ABIT KT7A-RAID motherboard or is the VIA KT133A chipset unable to use that kind of memory?

The KT133A chipset requires the use of 168-pin DIMM memory. DDR RAM uses a 184-pin layout. DDR RAM will, therefore, not work on a KT7A board. Hope that answers your question.🙂

is there a big difference in performance between pc1600 and pc2100 ddr ram? the prices on these chips have really come down and i was thinking about skipping the 133a mb train altogether and getting a ddr board instead.

There is a big difference between pc1600 and pc2100 DDR Ram. The pc1600 is the equivalent of pc100, meaning that it is meant for a 100 fsb, and the pc2100 is meant for 133 fsb. The 1600 is fine if you have no intention of unlocking the tbird or duron you are going to buy to use with a 133fsb. Also, DDR boards look kinds limited on the ocin side.... I mean you can get a gigabyte board which aren't really known for overclocking (only strong point about it is that it run DDR an 760 and is out now). The ASUS doesn't even have the jumpers for ocin (the only reason I am not getting DDR yet). And well..... the Iwill with the ALi chipset looks good, but the ALi chipset looks like it will die out.

Actually DDRam is available - sometimes you may see a reference to PC266DDRAM (2100DDR) - which is bus 133 type as opposed to 1600 which is bus 100 type.
