DDR RAM Question

I've got an ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe mobo with 3 DDR RAM slots.
The RAM I'm currently using is 2 sticks of 512MB @ PC2700 (they were free from a friend)
They are 2 different brands, one is just listed as generic and I forget what the other is off hand but it's not a well known brand.

For right now they are in slots so that they will run in single channel mode. But if I move one stick, the mobo say the set up would be for dual channel mode.

The questions is; if I was to move one stick so that it would be for the dual channel set up is it possible that they would run in dual channel or would they still be single channel or would/could something bad happen to the system in one way or another by doing this with these sticks?

well I tried it and everything seems going pretty well
3DMark 03 score went from 1998 to 2027
Everest memory benchmark results:
Single - Dual
Read: 1956 - 1992
Write: 739 - 787

So not a big improvement but a bit more
Oh and I did make one minor mistake, it's PC2100 ram not PC2700

You could try with CPUID - it will identify at least the speed and ratings of the memories. I used the program lately

No I just typed it wrong before and didn't noticed until now
I knew it was PC2100 from the beginning.
