Looks good but I would like to see two things changed. I would like more than 2 memory slots and an ISA or PCI slot in place of the AMR slot. They say you can put up to 2Gigs of memory in it but who can get a 1 gig stick of 266DDR? The 256meg sticks are going to be the norm for some time I would think, that would put you at ony 512meg for now:(

<< I would like more than 2 memory slots >>

Just as the transition to PC133 caused most mobo makers to drop the fourth slot, most DDR motherboards will have two DIMM slots. Those boards with three or four DDR DIMM slots will require you to use Registered DIMMs (instead of the less-expensive unbuffered) if you want to use the third or fourth slot.

Only 512mb of ram? ROFL unless you are running an enterprise server, or rendering New York city. You do not need more than 512mb of ram :).

Sure "we" could get 128's but then we would end up with 256meg or 384meg when we fill the second slot. Will that be enough a year from now?????

That is what I am saying. 128 to 256 should be enough. Over... well it is overkill for you and the wallet.

I guess it just depends on what you are planning to do with your PC. i820, upon unveiling, had only two (sometimes 3) slots but for gaming I never intended on using more than 256. My swap file was ner used to my knowledge...

This the board I've had on my wishlist for two months! When the F**K (sorry, I'm just getting really impatient) are AMD and Asus gonna release all these DDR parts? My P2-450 with a TNT-1 card is definitely starting to show it's age.

Jumpem...

I am feeling this upgrade rage too. So I am trying to hold out with my p2 400. That an my video card is the equivalent to a ATi Rage II+ with 4mb memory. So I am with you! Hurry up and lower prices!!!!!

This is interesting.

Check out this link.

Note the board looks pretty much identical except this A7M266 board has four DIMM slots. Of course, I believe that the one at the Asus site that FK posted is correct. But it looks like they originally intended to have four slots and changed their minds.

Edit: For those who think these are two different boards - note the A7M266 logo near the PCI slots. Also a lot of the top level PCB routes are the same on both boards.

Hmmm, that'll have to be the leading candidate for Project Jukebox (see link below). I heard Tyan may have a good one coming too! :)

i got the asus a7 and i like the ability to plug in 4 drives all as master because of the ata100. I'm sorry they had to cut the two extra channels... They integrated alot on this board, which is a step away from the A7 which had very little... This may be for OEMs but i don't know why an OEM would want integrated sound unless the sound was mad good. No company is going to make a low end DDR machine in the next couple months so i don't see why they would put in all the integrated stuff. The integrated nic is a good idea though, frees a PCI slot.

got an A7V, doesn't support ddr so it's not 266. I went and checked the box to make sure that wasn't it's actual product name... lol. I got it a couple months ago and i like it. Was one of the bset when i got even though MSI has passed it and now DDR has come out.

I am with the microstar guys. I have an MSI board and I am partial to them now.
I would wait and see what they produce it could be good!
