DDR Memory speed question

I have 512 MB of PC 2100 DDR memory, if I buy another stick of 512, does it have to be the same speed? If I buy a faster speed wont it just lower its speed to match that of the 2100?

Thanks

i tried to use PC2700 and PC3200 at the same time but my system refused to boot up.

i doubt it would work but you should check your motherboard manual to make sure, if you even have a manual for it.

good luck

Usually the system will just run at the lower of the two memory's speeds.

That is usually what will happen.. the system will pick the slower of the clock speeds andrun both modules at that speed.

You will not have a problem as long as you install the faster module in the second slot. You just need to make sure both modules are non-ecc.
