is there a simple way to tell which sticks are backwards compatible? i assume not all kinds are capable of this. im looking for pc2100 and the ones higher than that seem to be cheaper or on sale more often. thanks

yeah it should work I'm useing PC3200 RAM in my daughters computer Sempron 2800 witch take PC2700 Ram and it works fine.

ya i think it should work.
PC2700 & PC3200 are backwards compatible. (i don't know about pc 2100 rams. I think they are not backwards compatible.)
I am using a PC3200 with a PC2100. Works fine

Any DDR RAM will work at a lower speed than what it's rated for. If oyu really wanted you could run PC3200 on an old Athlon 1.0 @ DDR200.
