DDR mbs:Epox 8K7A or wait???

So I've read nearly every post regarding DDR motherboards and the obvious consensus is the Epox8k7A (w or w/o RAID).
I want to dump my 2.5 yr old system and with these low RAM prices...dernit I wanna do it now 🙂
However, there's one thread saying that the next set of DDR mbs coming out are going to be much much better (e.g. nForce?)
Sooooooo, if I get the Epox now, will I REALLY regret it when these newfangled 2nd gen DDR motherboards come out? I'm not planning on doing any oc'ing (1.2Ghz is overkill for right now). If the new DDR mbs are 10-20% faster...fine, but if it gets into a REALLY significant difference (>50%), then I MIGHT hold off on this.
Oh yeah, this is what I have right not (try to no laugh 🙂 ):

Abit BX6rev2
256MB PC100 SDRAM

I wanna get:
a good DDR mb (Epox 8K7A w/ raid?)
Athlon 1.2GHz,266 (any recs?)
2x256MB of PC2100 ECC DDR (Crucial probably)

Cool, I love 10min replies. Anyways, I know I can still use my trusty bx6, but I'm looking to build an entire new system and turning my current one into a linux box to mess around with.....with that, any recs?

if you are looking for a 50% increase with nforce i'd say no way but 25% but the palomino 1.53 is something you might want to consider it is up to 90% faster in SSE optimized applications with the Tbird at the same clock (photoshop Autocad)

It's tough, I realy if you can would wait to see nForce benchmarks and see if it lives up to the hype. Even if it doesn't, by then there will more SiS 735 boards like the Asus' A7S266, MSI's 735 offering, so you will still be able to get a very high performing solution in a board like the A7S266.

Nope, don't wait. The Epox 8K7A works so superbly it's not worth the wait. Save the nforce for the future when you perhaps plan to buy another computer for like a network for example... 8K7A supports all your needs!

it's hard to say really. if you don't really need a new comp now then wait, cuz there are a lot of goodies coming out very soon (palo + nforce). and don't worry about ddr prices. they will not go up. if anything, they might even go down a few bucks.

If I do wait it won't be for nForce (I think):
- it will probably be expensive
- the integrated audio & video thing isn't too appealing

I would probably wait for new/updated AMD, ALi, or SiS chipsets. I never liked VIA anyways.
Awwww man, I might have to give in and get the epox..TOOOO tempting..I don't have to have the fastest system...just one that'll last a few years and one that is VERY stable.
From all the info, the epox is very stable, right?
Oh yeah, where's a good place to get all of this stuff??
mb,mem and processor
hard drives (IBM)
case,floppy drive
power supply
RAM:from crucial
The vendor I used 2.5 yrs ago went under (transcendpc.com), doh.

I really don't think the nForce is going to be as amazing as everyone says.

It will have an integrated GF2MX which is kinda neat, but useless if you get your own card.
It will have hardware prefetch in the chipset, but that's useless with Paliminos and Morgans just around the corner. Yes hardware prefetch will be handy for current Athlons and Durons because they don't have it, but with the Athlon4 and "Duron4" using it already the chipset doesn't need it.

I'm interested by the onboard Audio, because it appears that it will be the first fully DX8 compliant sound chip, and nVidia has a bunch of Aureal engineers don't they? But that's about the only thing in nForce that appeals to me.

Performance...I don't think that AMD761+Palimino will be significantly behind nForce+Palimino.

However...Avoiding Via would be very very nice 😉

Seriously though with the newest drivers most of the 686B problems are gone, and the 8K7A is a great board. No matter what you do when, there is always something new just around the corner, you'll wait forever.

By an Epox 8K7A or ECS 7K5SA (Sis735) now...don't wait.

I don't believe anyone should "wait" for a chipset to come out, CPU's and video cards are another story.

Motherboard prices don't go down all that fast so get a new system now and do the motherboard upgrade if you feel the need to.

I'm getting the Epox w/ RAID. ok, now where should I get it (along with cpu, case, etc.)? Bunta is one that I found so far that has the epox.

Newegg is a good place to buy from but I think they are out of stock right now. When they do get them in stock it only lasts a couple hours and then sell out again. I would just go ahead and order it from them and they will ship it out as soon as they get one.

Damn they sell out fast at newegg, well I'd get on the auto-notify with your email, and when it comes in stock get a case (Fong Kai 302 if you won't mod, Enlight 7327 if you will) Get the proccessor there as well, they have a 1.2 GHz 1.2 for $101 or retail for $117. They also gave IBM GXP60 40 gig for $107 so that's not bad...Newegg is good!

if you're dealing with newegg, i learned this trick from someone else on the boards...call newegg and ask them when they are getting stock (of the 8k7a for example). they'll say friday...so go online on thurs nite, and you'll be guaranteed to get what you want. never wait until the day they tell you stock is coming in, you'll get burned..as many did at around 10:30 this morning.
