My girlfriend has it at her house and I'm fairly good at it (I can beat her haha)...

It's a fun game, but I wish you could put your own songs into it... that would be the ultimate...

The programs for the computer let you do this (i.e. play DDR on computer, with custom songs). It's pretty tough to write step patterns that 1) don't suck and 2) go with the song, though.

yeah, if you go to Ebay, you can get 2 soft DDR PS2 mats and a Ps2 to USB converter for about $55 shipped, thats what I did. I found someone online to give me a DVD of like 5000 stepmania songs and stepfiles, so i have music to last till the end of time :p It was a great game, but i found myself not having the time to play anymore. its GREAT exercise, and a lot of fun (although you can get some wierd looks while playing it) I HIGHLY reccomend it, and if anyone wants to buy my pads, check the link in my sig, (2 pads and the converter, and the dvd of music for $35 shipped)

hehe i just got back from my bfs and we were playing ddr all night! our pads are just no name (oem) ignition pads but after the summer we are going to be looking into getting metal ones, they aren't much omre than high end ignition pads anyways. The only problem is storing them but whatever. We were considering the plywood/chair mat mod on some cheap ones but decided against it. our ignitions are good for now.

Otherwise try putting the pad on a hard surface rather than carpet, and if you are in the basement or somewhere where you could have a permanent ddr space (since you play quite often) you could cover the pads with plastic and tape the plastic down, or even just tape the pads down, to keep them from sliding around.

650 square foot apartment :( so no luck heh. I was thinking the same thing about taping them down.

One of my roommates and I tried it out at the union at school once and thought it'd be a blast to have a bunch of drunk people try at our pre-game parties for hockey. So we bought some pads for the dreamcast. After a few weeks it wasn't funny anymore, but instead it was a ton of fun, because we were getting good at it. Then I bought a PSOne and all the DDR games I could find. The most fun one was probably the Disney Mix, got it for $29.99 at EBGames, now that game goes for close to $100 on ebay! I eventually got a PS->USB converter and now I play on my mame arcade using stepmania. Haven't played in a few months, but every time I get it out, I'm usually hooked and play for weeks straight until my schedule gets busy and I don't get a chance to play.

Anybody know where i can get some good but cheap pads? I hear that the new ones (the 2.5 with the better foam and that don't slip as much) are much better than the older ones that slip all over the place. I looked at some places online, but they were all like 80 bucks or so shipped, for 2 pads. Help a white-guy-wanting-to-learn-ddr-to-beat-the-asian-guys out. Thanks.
