My friend had the game, and both my wife and I liked it so we decided why not.

We have started playing it 1hr a night 3-5 times a week, and after switching to song after song, it turns out to be a pretty good workout, especially with 200 BPM and 30 jumps in a song.

We bought some crappy mats from Fry's for 29.99, but they have a 5 year warranty so if we wear them out we can just get new ones... I would get better pads if i thought it really mattered at this point, but other than sliding around a lot (grrr) they arent too bad, plus sometimes I cant tell where i am positioned on the pad, and i keep missing a few of the arrows.

If you want good soft pads, get Red Octane Ignitions... Dont buy phony ebay "Ignition" pads.
I play fairly regularly.

My friends used to, one of them was really good. I could never really get good at it though, I was much better at the police 911 game.

I got a metal DDR pad for my birthday in February. Been playing it for 30 minutes a few times a week since then, pretty much. Still lacking a good amount of skill, but considering my fitness level it's to be expected. Sad thing is I broke my control box so waiting on a replacement.

My wife and I just bought DDR and a imitation ignition pad off eBay as a fun alternative to the gym every day. I suck out loud right now, but maybe I'll improve. If we get better we might pickup a better pad.

I agree that its a great fun way to get a workout. Unfortunatly, since one of my best friends quit doing it alot (he used to do it every other day for 30 minutes to sometimes 2 hours) he gained quite a bite of weight. He was really good at it too.

For me it's not as much a weight thing as it is general fitness. I'm not too bad for weight, but I can barely run for more than a couple minutes without my lungs feeling like they'll explode :p Getting much better, though.

I'm fairly decent at it. I can pass 8 and 9 foot catas regularly. I never made it to the 10s though. I tried Sakura on Heavy and got lost during the slowdown.

The foam pads help a lot, I highly recommend them. Otherwise try putting the pad on a hard surface rather than carpet, and if you are in the basement or somewhere where you could have a permanent ddr space (since you play quite often) you could cover the pads with plastic and tape the plastic down, or even just tape the pads down, to keep them from sliding around.

I have a suitemate who is in the top 100 players in the US,.

The one time I tried to play I got confused and almost fell off the dancepad. Watching my suitemate is crazy, you can't even see his feet.

DDR is one of the best games ever. Its soo good for you and fun that u just want to keep playing. My frined lost 40 pounds play ddr alone, didnt change anything else. Its usually hard to start becuase everyone sucks when they start, just realize its all about having fun. Try never to get serious about...people at the arcades are very hardcore about it and play constantly.

I am ok, I can do 8 and 9s but no 10s. If you have a machien near by i would recommend playing there..its just so much better playing in the arcade

I'm all right. Took several months off, didn't get much worse, and actually improved significantly after playing for a week. I'm playing 5 days a week.
