DDR boards and memory compatibility (Epox 8k7a and FIC ad11)

During the process of RMA'ing a FIC AD11, the tech support rep at FIC asked me if I was using memory from the compatibility list provided by AMD. I told him I was (so he'd put the RMA through) but I was really using Crucial PC2100 (C2.5, unbuffered, non-parity). My machine had run fine for several days and then went kaput. I disagree that it was the memory was incompatible. Is this a safe assumption? I've seen posts of other people with the AD11 board using the same Crucial memory without any problems.

Anyhow, I decided to go with the Epox board instead. Will the memory I have suffice for this board? Or should I get ECC or ECC Registered instead?

Obviously, I don't know a great deal about RAM in general. Any reassurance/information would be helpful. Thanks.

BTW, your crucial memory uses Micron chips and IS listed on the AMD approved list.

get the ECC chips its like 3 bucks difference and if you upgrade to a board with more than 2 dimms you need it

On certain boards in order to populate three or more slots using 256mb modules or greater you will need to use Registered Memory. If you only order ECC then you will have the same issues as using unbuffered memory.
