Nice, i might give DDO a shot.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but has anyone had any problems like getting billed for a trial version after the trial period has ended or cancellation of subscription on time? I have never tried signing up for a free trial as this is my number 1 concern.

never had that happen and i've done a lot of free trials.

DDO trial doesn't require a CC anyway.

Paranoid much? :p

Anyway I downloaded the trial, have my key, but can't motivate myself to install it and give it a shot as I thought the beta was pretty cr@p.

Anything improved much since beta?

Depends on what you hated in beta. They re-balanced some of the starter quests because they were too hard for certain classes. The lag is now practically non-existant for zone in times.

Im not sure what I didnt like really... it all just kinda felt shallow.

I've never played a pen and paper game in my life but zillions of MMORPGS

I think it was just too 'Guild Wars' with zones and no real exterior environment which made it hard for me to get sucked in which I suppose isnt the sort of thing that gets patched in :)

MMOs need demos/trials much more so than the average game - they have to convince you that there's enough content to not just warrant money today, but continually. :p

There are not alot of people who play at all.. max level is 10 I hit 3 on the first day, and the guys voice....when your on a quest the "dungeon master" is just wretched... I cant stand him lol.

Beyond that though I did have some fun in the game... I mean its absolutly free and YOU DONT NEED A CREDIT CARD to sign up. So no worrying about canceling the subscription or anything.

Did anyone else think the graphics were bad? To me it feels like the bloom lighting is just clouding bad textures... and as far as color goes.. this game looks like that area of the pallette where all the paint has mixed into that dung brown.

The way combat is... kind of... passive agressive LoL with block and movement yet... everything is dice roll besides that... Ive been calling it Dungeons and Dice. Id rate it a 6.5/10. If you're bored...and you got no money, and no credit card... then try it out you might dig it for a few days...but dont pay 15$ a month for it.

I thought the gfx where way above WoW and just below EQ2 , not bad at all, just not enough to do to warrent a monthly fee.

When you get to level 9-10 there is one quest that is narrated by one of the original makers of D&D or some crap like that. Anyways he sounds so dorky, it is friggen hillarious.

FYI: you still have to buy the game after the trial is over...meaning, you can't just start paying for a subscription, you have to spend 60$ to get a 'real' key, but then maybe you still get the 30days free from that too?

Exactly. I've never understood why all MMOs aren't available as downloads, ala EVE and the such. It's not like you need a CD to play on the servers...

Because it costs MONEY to DEVELOP the game. Lots of money. Much more than singleplayer games.

The monthly fees is a profit for them, but it also goes to customer services, bandwidth, hardware costs, live team, janitors, etc.

I don't understand why people find it so expensive. All these games come with a free month trial, and how many singleplayer games do you play longer than a month? The few that you do, they're a great value. But an MMO is still a fantastic value even if you had to pay for the months after the free trial. It certainly is cheaper than buying new games, and cheaper than many other forms of entertainment, which don't offer anywhere close to the amount of hours of entertainment you can have with an MMO.
