DD-WRT build for E1000 firmware v2.1

I am considering installing DD-WRT on Linksys E1000 firmware v2.1 I am going through DD-WRT forums and its very confusing with regards to which build I should be using. Wikipedia says that anything after 16968 should be ok, link to the board.

The router database suggests to use latest version, the 'dd-wrt.v24-21061_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_e1000v2.bin'

or

I should just use build 16968 and then 'upgrade' to the latest build.

This router will not be used as standard router, nothing fancy (I don't understand networking at all). Just exploring if this router is worth keeping.

Thanks in advance.

Just go with what the router DB recommends. I've flashed several Linksys/Cisco routers to DD-WRT and they went from pieces of shit to awesome routers. This includes a couple of Valet M20s that were dumpster folder.

The old WRT54GL router with the old version of DD-WRT was very very good. Nowadays, it seems like DD-WRT is very hit or miss. Do yourself a favor, and read the DD-WRT website first for your specific router. My WNDR3700 and 1043WND routers were god awful on the newer versions of DD-WRT. However, Gargoyle firmwares are completely stable, especially the older versions.

Do some reading first, then flash away.

I'm using V24 SP2 Standard build. Don't ask me how I got it. Someone on another forum gave me the link in a FTP file tree. This is the latest and is great.
