DCer: Where to travel to for Memorial Weekend?

IHAVEAQUESTION

Well, my friends in Baltimore want to go somewhere during the Memorial weekend. We have Ocean City or Atlantic City in mind but really thinking we can do better. We are not big on gambling and not sure what either place has to offer.

I suggested Virginia Beach but I've never been there so I can't really vouch for it.

I don't know...is there other place we could go to? Preferably within 3 hours radius of DC. I heard there are a few interesting spots along the VA beach but not sure where those are.

Assateague and Chincoteague?

What about Virginia Beach? Williamsburg? We Kinda want to visit small charming towns if any.

Williamsburg is nice, lots to do around there, Busch Gardens is nice if you like that sort of thing, one of the nicest amusement parks on the east coast. Also plenty of historic and nature stuff to do in the area if you want.

I find Virginia beach, atlantic city, ocean city (NJ, and MD) to be pretty trashy overall. But that could just be because I hate the over priced super packed and bustling boardwalk type beaches.

5 hour drive from DC, not really too close.

Fair enough. My second recommendation would be to head out to the shenandoah valley. Lots of stuff to do out there. Just about anything you can imagine. Great hiking if you are into the mountains, and there are a lot of old civil war sites to check out. The C&O canal is pretty neat too.

My first thought was Shenandoah national park, but it's pretty good distance away, and I love nature and camping, don't think OP is quite the same.

I swear we need a DC ATOT meet!

I am going to visit my mom this weekend in VA Beach. NYC next weekend. Staying put for Memorial Day weekend as I'll be on domestic and international business trips throughout June and July.

OP: Have you ever thought to visit Falling Water in PA?

i went to virginia beach over memorial day weekend a few years ago. i won't go back there.

the beach area where we stayed at was nice and had a big beach, but the actual area was just not my liking. the night life there down between like 20th and 30th street (or something like that) is extremely ghetto. we did go to one really nice restaurant in the hilton, catch 21, and then to a nice lounge on the roof, sky bar, but that was the only nice place we found.

one place we went into had was really dark with purple lights, and a stainless steel bar. we walked in and made a quick run through then came out. one of my buddies had someone reach in his pocket in that short time. then we ended up finding a bar that was okay a little bit down. but we saw a fight outside of the bar through the window while we were in the bar.

i've been to ocean city (md) many times and always have a good time there. there are a buncha rednecks that go there but you can steer clear of them pretty easily. if you are looking for a new place, try dewey beach in deleware or possibly rehobeth, both are close by to eachother and just far away as ocean city.

atlantic city is a shit hole in general so i'd steer clear of there.

you could check out nyc they have buses that go up there.

I don't know anymore. My friends want to go to LA but they can't even take Friday off.

Looks like it's still between Ocean City and Atlantic City....decision, decision.

lol if it were me i'd take ocean city, but honestly that's if I didn't jump off the bay bridge on the way.

Deep Creek
Shenandoah Valley
Harpers Ferry
VA beach is OK. There's no boardwalk so it can be kind of boring if you guys aren't into hard drinking. You could try Rehobeth, dewey, bethany. I think they do have a boardwalk that connects to OC.

there are much better things to do at beaches other than go to the boardwalks heh.
