i've only seen talk about the 7970 over at SETI@Home, but no experiments yet. if you're familiar with the project, then you know that nVidia's FERMI architecture of the GTX 4xx and 5xx series GPUs is far more efficient than AMD's VLIW4 & VLIW5 architectures of the HD 5xxx and 6xxx series GPUs regarding the Multibeam application, while the situation is quite the opposite with regard to the Astropulse application. i'm hoping that the GCN architecture of AMD's new HD 7xxx series GPUs will make it competitive with (or perhaps better than) FERMI with respect to Multibeam, and that AMD will continue to improve its performance gap over FERMI with regard to Astropulse crunching efficiency.
