DC affect performance?

Hey. Sorry for the n00b question, but I couldn't find this elsewhere and want to help Team Anandtech. Do these DC programs hurt performance with games, etc.? Even by a few frames? I saw they don't use much memory while running, but want to know whether they should run while I'm playing my games. Thanks for the info.

Why would someone want to use a computer for something other than Distributed Computing?!? 😕

That's just too wierd..

KnickNut3,

I'm running ECCp-109 and I shut down the client before running any games on my PC.

I've also played UT, QIII, MOHAA, RTCW with the ECCp-109 client on and only noticed 3/4 fps slowness in UT.

I've played games such as UT, Diablo2, UO, DAoC, and Dungeon Siege. and have not noticed any choppy or slow play while running SETI. I've noticed a slowdown in my SETI times but not in my games.

Almost forgot to mention the bad with the good. SETI has been known to affect Outlook 2000 (not Outlook Express or Outlook XP) and maybe a couple other programs, but probably won't be a problem for you.

I run SETI on this machine, and play Tribes 2 ( arguably one of the most CPU / Memory / Video stress tests ) and get about a 1 fps drop. ( about 0.5% baised on this system )

It is negligable. If you are worried, just shut it off when you go to do something CPU intensive. as of this moment seti is using 16 megs of memory of my 512.
