DBAN hanging on PC (sysfs) error

Trying to nuke a laptop for a friend, got the CD to load fine, used the autonuke feature, and it loaded DBAN.

It got through "waiting for USB devices to register...done" and then displays "PCI (sysfs). At that point, the program just hangs.

Some have suggested disabling the media card reader in BIOS, but fuck me if there's nothing in the BIOS on this thing referring to a media card reader.

Suggestions?

DBAN is OK but has way to many problems getting hung-up on devices that aren't even drives...the web is full of people yelling for help. I use SecureErase developed by the University of California, San Diego in their Center for Magnetic Recording Research. It accesses the HDD's built-in secure erase feature. Professional forensics can't recover data from a drive that's been wiped using SecureErase. Read how to use it, burn the ISO, and boot it.

Thanks for the alternative. I'll give it a try if this shits on me again. Trying some older stable releases to see if that helps

And DBAN works great when it works. It's a beast. I blame this laptop.
