DB table design for comment & PM systems.

How would you do this ? Just have one big table with dates, names, userids, ect and cross reference it with a user name table ?

Your question is pretty vague.

The simplest would be to have have one table with all the users and associated info.
Then a second table for the PM data...
from_person (id from user table), to_person (id from user table), message, date, etc
