I did a simple update ... it hung ... for a while ... so I aborted ...

When I came back ... I can't dump, drop, select, update, or basically do anything to that table!!!

Our version of mySQL doesn't do Fix or Check table either ...

Any ideas???

The only problem I've ever had in MySQL is the DB mysteriously changing my root password to something other than it was before. Had to use the accompanying mysqladmin program to change it back to what it used to be - works fine again now.

So basically that's what I'm going to recommend you check up on - whatever username and password you use to do work in the DB, ensure your password and table grants are correct. Let us know what the problem turns out to be and how it happened, if you figure it out.

I've never lunched on a mySQL db before... how does it taste like? Chicken probably. :)

Perhaps instead of getting bitterly defensive you should re-read your headlines several times before posting... possibly look up some or all words until you get it right...

You sure are being rude in a thread in which you are asking for help. Oh, sorry this post didn't contribute either.

I often read ... rarely post ... 'cause when I have a genuine question ... I don't get any light in the tunnel ...

Then I retaliate ... next thing ya know the thread gets locked ...

It's all in good fun ... but maybe the wolves could hold off until someone answers, then have your little "I have a transformer lunchbox" fun.

I remember the last time I had a serious question, it was about outlook sorting ... everyone's response was "sort manually" because I said don't say sort manually ...

"You sure are being rude in a thread in which you are asking for help."
Then someone always says that line.

Did you think I didn't know that I was bein' snippy? I may need help with this situation, but I'm not a fvckin' moron dude.

This is why I never ask for help in the Off Topic forum.

Maybe you should try asking in the other forums even though it gets less traffic, you might be able to find a decent response to your question.

"I may need help with this situation, but I'm not a fvckin' moron dude."

Thanks for clearing that up, no one was even hinting that you were. In OFF TOPIC people tend to mix humor with help. If you want more serious help post to one of the technical areas. A large amount of the time when I post questions you do get light hearted responses but someone usually comes through with the answer. The secret is to see the humor then weed through for the answer.

Just my .02 though

I assure you insulting others is not the best way to get the answer to your question... you might wanna calm down a little there...

Now back to your problem... I work mainly with Oracle but have played with mySQL on my own... however I have not encountered your problem... This may be obvious, but have you tried shutting down the database completely and start it back up again? And also check your privilege tables...

mySQL got restarted and it 'unlocked' the table.

Looks like my fingers may have jabbled too fast 'cause the value was up to 537,844,851 when I got back in. I guess my +50 statement didn't work as planned!

So restarting mySQL worked?

Yep ... worked ...

I didn't want to touch the service though, because it's on a server that hosts a lot of sites that use the DB ... so if on reboot it needed "service" I'd have been out to dry, along with some sites that get a decent amount of traffic!
