Dazzling

would you go this far to thwart facial recognition software?

just wished that had some examples of the dazzle face paint in the article.

I'm betting more that just protesters will be putting a dazzle on their faces in the near future.

From everything I've read, this actually works quite well. The cubist shapes make the camera not recognize it as a face at all.

"What did your assailant look like?"
"Pretty plain over all, blonde hair tied at back, medium build, black jacket, nothing really stood out. Well, she did have these red and black stripes on her face, oh, and a big blue triangle running from her nose to her chin. Not sure I could pick her out to be honest."

Ha! So analog!

“It would be interesting to wear it day to day and for it not to be too outrageous, for it to be more commonplace,” Roderick said. “But the speed that facial recognition algorithms learn means that you can’t find one design and use it for the rest of your life. At some point, it will learn that you are a face with cv dazzle. It’s a classic arms race.”

From the link:

They have already failed

yeah, that seems....odd. I think all of the small device facial recognition (phones, tablets, laptop) use the IR camera and primarily do an eye scan. They aren't really looking at your face, afaik. These kind of public cameras are mapping facial structure, I think, so testing their method out on a completely different system, that ignores what they are doing, seems odd.
