yet you see F1 drivers try to make it in nascar and they cant, its hard making it around a track when 40 guys are bumping you into the walls in a car with minimal aerodynamics.

What F1 drivers have attempted NASCAR?

Andretti, Mario
Andretti, Mario , 1940?, American auto racing driver, b. Italy. He is the only driver to have won the Indianapolis 500 (1969), stock racing's Daytona 500 (1967), and the international Formula One championship (1978). He retired from Indy-car racing in 1994 with 52 victories, second only to A. J. Foyt, but continued his attempts to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Andretti is the head of a racing family that includes his son Michael Andretti,. 1962?, also a noted Indy car driver, son Jeff, and nephew John.

A.J. Foyt

Born: Jan. 16, 1935
Auto racer

7-time USAC-CART national champion (1960-61,63-64,67,75,79); 4-time Indy 500 winner (1961,64,67,77); only driver in history to win Indy 500, Daytona 500 (1972) and 24 Hours of LeMans (1967 with Dan Gurney); retired in 1993 as all-time CART wins leader with 67

There have been several drivers who drove in both Indy 500, and Nascar races.

Well, both drivers you mentioned are relics from a much different time, and Foyt never raced in F1 technically.

Do you have any other names from the last 30 years?

Plenty of CART, IRL, Champcar drivers have done it, but they're not in the same league as F1 drivers.

The only reason people are defending NASCAR in this discussion is because its an American sport. The whole world watches F1, yet the American ignorance kicks in and defends its patriotic ways. I didn't even know what the hell NASCAR was when i lived in Europe.

Names like Michael Schumaher are famous wherever you go.

I don't know one world famous NASCAR driver.

It goes hand in hand with America's need to be catered to. We like things handed to us, just like a drive-thru window. It's EASY to watch circle track racing, and identify with a car that looks somewhat like the one you drive to work. Nextel Cup racing is manufactured, and turns into a soap opera (reality TV) at times. I believe a lot of the BS is made up.

European style road course racing will never make it in this country.

I'm sorry but I watch NASCAR not because it's an american sport or whatever but because I'm a fan of motorsports in general. I don't like all of them, but I don't feel the need to bash any of them. I think drag racing is boring, but I can appreciate it for what it is.

There's too many morons in here who spew out stupid crap like WRC and F1 > * but they didn't see a single fcking race last year. I start F1 threads in here and there's barely anyone that responds.

What happened at the USGP last year did not help F1's presence in the US.

Yes, yes, we know you hate the US and can't wait to move back to Europe. Trust us, everyone else can't wait for you to leave either...don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.

I'm an avid F1 fan and I agree that what happened at Indy last year was a disgrace.

But, I'm still of the opinion that the average F1 driver is more skilled than a Cup driver. They're even more skilled than our own open wheel drivers (IRL, Champcar). It has to do with the euro feeder series - the level of competition is much more fierce than even our own Toyota Atlantic series is. It's been demonstrated time and time again when european trained drivers came over and owned what ever series they entered - Montoya, Zanardi, Bourdais, Mansell etc...

I'm not going to argue that point, but to dismiss NASCAR drivers completely is just wrong. Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson IIRC did pretty well in the Race of Champions two years ago. Plus American open wheel racing has become a joke which is probably why the IRL and CART have become homes for F1 rejects.

Well I guess that the F1, Vs Cart/ IRL/ and Nascar and NHRA are all different types
of racing,

How many Top Fuel or Funny Car racers go to Indy, or Daytona?

How many Nascar drivers bother to go to Indy?

How many people have won both Daytona, and Indy?

How many people have won the Indy 500, and Formula 1 championships??

Different types of racing,

in the USA Footbal, and Baseball are more popular than Soccer. 😉

I like my Beer cold, like 3c, 36f
some people like it 10c..... 😉

The Race of Champions is biased towards NASCAR drivers - since it hasn't had any street or road courses in the last 15 years at least. As of this year that will change for the June 29th race which is the Daytona road course - we'll see how the open wheel boys fair for that.

The only F1 "rejects" that I know of racing in the states is Christiano DaMatta and Justin Wilson - and they were both rejects when they raced in F1 too. Actually, DaMatta won the championship over here, then went to F1 and sucked, then came back with his tail between his legs.

How did you make elite member status with all your flaming. If you don't like NASCAR, stay out of the damn threads.

Damn. I was hoping Jr. would win, but he had no help. And WTF a Tony Stewart.

Is that a rhetorical question or do you want an answer?
The only reason I ask is because you are a n00b and may not really know.

Wrong race of champions.

I'm talking about this one. Sebastian Loeb cleaned up this year. Michael Schumacher did ok last year.
