Who are they to tell me what time I have to set my clock? I don't remember having to set my clocks ahead one hour when Bush was president! Now I lose an hour of sleep! Thanks Obama. How does he know what time it's supposed to be? DOES OBAMA THINK HE IS GOD??!!!! That would be like saying that we have 366 days in a year now. You know why BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT SAID SO! America is about FREEDOM! and that means the FREEDOM to set my clock to whatever time I want. Our founding fathers are turning in their graves. They would never think up such tyranny like moving the clocks ahead one hour!.

Thats okay Obama, because moving the clocks ahead one hour, just puts you an hour closer to YOUR IMPEACHMENT and the SECOND AMERICAN REVOLUTION!

As a kid I always wondered why everyone didn't just switch to one standard time. Who cares if the sun rises at 2am in one part of the world and 5pm in another?

DST should be year-round. I hate it when it gets dark at 4:30PM in the winter.

This.
I don't care if its dark when I drive to work or cook breakfast but I like to actually do things past 5pm sometimes.

Arizona doesn't practice DST voodoo. DLT pleases me very much as it effectively moves Arizona from MST to PST which changes the time difference between Arizona and the East Coast from two hours to three hours. Company headquarters is on the East Coast. DST gives the bosslings one less hour in the work day to prevent me from getting work done.

Edit: On the downside, some dingleberry (probably an engineer) at my webhost decided that the servers would observe DST instead of GMT which breaks a couple of my scripts twice per year. I have two change the time offset with each time change.

OP: do you really want to go back to the old days when decisions about daylight savings time were made locally? "From 1945 to 1966 there was no federal law on daylight saving time, so localities could choose when it began and ended or drop it entirely. In 1954 only California and Nevada had statewide DST west of the Mississippi, and only a few cities between Nevada and St Louis. In the 1964 Official Railway Guide 21 of the 48 states had no DST anywhere." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daylight_saving_time_in_the_United_States

It's the planet's fault. If the Earth would just straighten its axis and fly right, we'd be done with this seasonal nonsense.

By all means, feel free to ignore DST if you choose. After all, there's no LAW that requires anyone to honor the time change. Just tell your boss that you will continue on your current schedule and he can work around that.
After all...there's NOTHING in the US Constitution about Daylight Savings Time...so it's UNCONSTITUTIONAL!

fyi the feds got into the time business when the railroads asked them too. It was too hard to make schedules when every town could have their own time. The feds didn't make it mandatory but gave the states inducements to standardize. Some states said f.u.

Yah, everybody should go by zulu time (GMT). While you're at it get everybody in the world to speak Esperanto.

If there were no time zones it would be far more difficult to figure out what time of the workday or just day it is in another country.

Actually, the railroads adopted their own standard time system in 1883.

It wasn't until 1918 that the government passed the Standard Time Act.
