the game can be very cool but it can be very frustrating too (probably due to being in alpha). like right now, i am having so much trouble trying to get into a server to even play.

it either sits at a loading screen or wait for host screen.

once you're in and playing and trying to avoid zombies and constantly looking over your back for zombies and other players, you forget all about the problems getting into the game...

....until the next time you need to log in.

I'm having a hard time really getting into the game. Its just way too slow for me, and too time consuming to get basic needed items.

Its a good idea, but to me this mod misses it.

Yea, if your looking for a run & gun zombie experience....go else where.

However with a few people together you can get pretty aggressive.....a ton of different ways to play really........

If you are having issues connecting to the main official HIVE servers play on mine; search filter for "Rinaun" and you'll find a few servers.

Great deal on steam today.

This game is really great. Yes it has bugs and issues and can play kind of wonky sometimes, but to me that just contributes to the survival aspect of the game, like how most survival horror games are kind of difficult to control.

The cool thing is that playing the game solo feels completely different than playing it with even one other player which feels completely different from playing it with a group of 4 or 5 over teamspeak.

I've never gotten as many stories out of a game that are not only fun to share with my friends who play the game, but even my wife finds them very interesting and fun. She says that it's like playing the game version of The Walking Dead.

I have the feeling that we are going to see a half a dozen spin off games, some may be better and I'm sure many will be worse. I personally would love to see a game that is as hardcore as this, but with the graphics and control of Battlefield 3 with some fort building aspect like minecraft thrown in. Have the servers be persistent in a style like most MMO's that can handle thousands of users with the game world spanning possibly thousands of square miles and you'll have the true epic zombie survival game I've been waiting a decade for. Let gangs and sides develop on their own as people fight for control of the world (kind of like how guild wars 2 is). You could still play solo or start your own gang or join up with other gangs that are already fighting for control in the world. All of this would be dynamically driven by users in the world, not the company creating the gangs themselves or anything.

don't see the link from the steam sale thread in here, but Dayz is going to be stand-alone come September...

maybe that will help with connection issues.

So, should I pick this up on steam?

Game looks interesting, its on daily deal...

I'm wondering this as well. I see combined ops is $18, should I buy it?

I've been wanting to play this game, I think I might pick it up today.

I bought it. I figure I'm probably getting rid of my desktop come september anyway, so there's no real point in waiting.

Now to wait about 7 hours for it to download.

What a waste of time and money. Spent two hours trying to get into a game, and when I finally do its fricking night time. Another 10 minutes to figure out the flashlight. I read about how bad the controls are in the game, but this is ridiculous. Even when doing the ARMA first aid tutorial, you get stuck when you try to drag and carry. What a pos.

Fire up Arma 2 and do the Tutorials. The controls are not bad once you've figured them out.

I picked the game up and played for a few hours, at the outset the premise is interesting and I did have fun trying to meet up and exploring with a friend last night, but I guess I have a hard time seeing myself playing it for very long. I feel like once I find some good items (effectively, the "beat the game" objective) and inevitably die (or hole up forever for fear of losing it? lol) and have to do it again, the novelty will wear off.

snagged it @ $18 on steam this weekend, pretty fun ... pisses me off you can only go in like 5% of the buildings though, wtf...should be able to get in ALL of them.

Zombies are stupid, you can just zigzag and outrun them.

Controls are also rough at best ... when you look at a door, sometimes you can/cannot open it, same with gear.

Otherwise, love the concept, cannot wait to see them do more with it.

We hit main page on reddit and servers took a dive. Should be working fine now sans vehicles being fixed (damn multiple instances!).

i got in last night for like 30 seconds and then i got kicked...no idea why.

I was on last night too. Got kicked, rejoined. There were only like 6-10 people when I rejoined. I was near cherno so I figured with only a few people that would be a good time to go. I ran around for awhile, saw a few people that didn't feel like killing me (and I appreciate that).

Ran onwards getting into frequent skirmishes with zombies. I had planned on hanging out in cherno but since I have no idea what the f I'm doing I ended up running off in some direction.

Most of this is just playing to get the feel of where you need to stand/look to operate certain things.

About two weeks back we had a pretty nice camp - 2 tents, a Ural, atv, and bus .... as things go, someone found our camp and everything was destroyed, looted, or missing.... so it was time to rebuild.

Each of our group (3 of us total) joined different servers to try and find ATV or Ural on the NW ... my server ended up having the Ural while another guy's had an ATV... we went with mine since the Ural is better and it was night on the server (easier looting).

After about 3 hours of back and forth to the airport trying to find parts the sun eventually came up and the server started to fill up. Since that was happening we changed up the strategy a bit.... I was to sit and guard the truck (I had a DMR and NVGs - wasn't 100% day light yet) while the other two did the NWAF raids. After a the second trip back we had 3 tires, fuel tank parts, scrap metal, and 5 jerry-cans.... one more tire and we could move the truck.

As my buddies got back they ran up the hill behind the Ural to cook some meat and no more then 45 seconds after they left the truck's immediate area I see a ATV coming... I shout to them on Vent to put out the fire and get ready... two guys on a ATV are coming.

I'm in pretty good cover watching the truck/ATV while my buddies are trying to make it closer to my position for support. After watching for a bit the didn't seem to be fixing the truck, just hanging out. A few minutes later two guys came out of the woods to inspect the truck not knowing there are already two guys there, and three more watching it.

The two randoms run up and are spotted by the ATV guys.... the ATV guys make quick work of the randoms... but seeing as they fired on them almost instantly I had no problems shooting them now. They bandage up one guy (must have been hit by randoms) and shortly after I tell my friends I'm going to open fire if they're in position - they were able to move down quite close to the ATV guys during the last little rumble.

I see one guy go to the ATV while the other watches guard - then he goes to the truck to repair... so I take my shot. BANG, drop the lookout with headshot - but don't see a murder/bandit kill - he is just knocked out. The other guy is still in his repair animation so I get a shot off and hit him in the mid-section. He starts crawling to the ATV for cover, I get another shot on him and +1 Bandit kill. I let the others know that one guy isn't dead yet, just out, so one buddy runs up and quickly puts a handful of rounds in him with his M249 before he can log out.

We loot the bodies for worthwhile goods and before long find their ATV has the rest of the Ural parts we need! Some quick fixing and off to start a new camp!

We're settled now in an area that I think is much harder to find/safer than our last camp.

.... if anyone does happen to find it, congrats! you're getting some gooooood stuff!

From Rocket @ the DayZ Forums
"A data issue was affecting around 1500 users preventing them from loading into the game. This has now been corrected.

Those 1500 users would be unable to connect at all. We're very sorry about this, but please to say it has now been fixed and they should be able to connect.
