Ok here is the story: At 3pm PST today Valve is supposed to be releasing DOD:S. There is only one problem, the server operators do not have the server files. So, even though it will be unlocked, there will be ZERO servers to play on. I feel sorry for the GSPs that make a living out of this, but I find it funny that there will be no servers to play on, other then listen servers that people make thinking their cable/DSL can handle the load.

Edit: Oh not to mention that when they DO release the files you will have thousands trying to get the files all at once.

**Grabs some popcorn** This should be goooood.

Not unless the server files are located on a different part of the steam network, otherwise like I posted above thousands. :)

preloading started a while ago
i would imaging only a few small files need to be patched at launch

No no, perloading was only for the client files. I am willing to bet the server files are at LEAST 200-300MB.

Doesnt Source dedicated server handle all the mods?

I saw on the steam forums that the server files are already out. Didn't look in to it much more after that.

It does but there are still seperate files for each game type. Ie. Models, maps, configs etc...

Server files have been released.

We have made Day of Defeat: Source available to preload. You can preload it into a fresh location or with an existing Counter-Strike: Source or Half-Life 2: Deathmatch installation.

To preload the server run:

Win32:
Hldsupdatetool -command update -game dods -beta preload

Linux:
./steam -command update -game dods -beta preload

Note that the preload does NOT give you a functional Day of Defeat:
Source server, the last little bit of the server (a couple MB worth) will be released when the client is later today.

If you forget to put "-beta preload" on the command line then you will not get the preload, so don't forget it.

The server files would be 200-300MB? Wow, I never realized it would be that large (this assuming you know what you are talking about).

..... its 3:10 pm... people who had to buy DOD:S because they didnt buy the silver or gold package have to wait another few hours for steam to get their head outta the ass's because

Thank you for your recent pre-order. You will be able to begin playing Day of Defeat: Source the
minute that it is officially released.

Your credit card will not be charged until Day of Defeat: Source is officially released and you
will receive an email purchase receipt at that time.

which.... IS TOTALLY BULL

I would seriously doubt it. I'm sure the free HL2 you got was the bronze edition.
